When Lenovo launched the Vibe K5 Plus back in 2016 with Android 5.1.1, you knew it wouldn’t even make it to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. And it so happened, Lenovo never thought about pushing an update to device, but here we are: Thanks to awesome work by developers, the Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus can now run Android 8.0 Oreo update today.
Yeah, this is amazing — it’s really the power of the aftermarket custom firmware development. The Oreo update update comes to Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus as LineageOS 15 custom ROM, something we are seeing becoming available for lots of devices now, especially this week, even though the Android 8.0 OS is only about three weeks old.
With the Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus Oreo update, you get cool features like picture-in-picture, better notifications grouping in the shade, Notification badges, Notification channels, better Always-on display, Instant Apps, Autofill, revamped Settings app, notification snooze, and more.
Some of the old popular devices that are rocking the Oreo update now thanks to LineageOS 15 include OnePlus 2, Xiaomi Redmi 2, Xiaomi Redmi 3, Xiaomi Mi 3 and Mi 4, Moto G, Moto G2, Le Max 2, Nexus 4, Nexus 6, HTC One M7, to name a few.
That’s not to say that popular devices of current generation have been prejudiced out of Android 8.0 development scene. In fact, the LineageOS 15.0 ROM is also available for some of the most popular devices like OnePlus 5, OnePlus 3/3T, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus, Xiaomi Mi 5S, Xiaomi Mi Mix, etc. to name some.
As the development for the LineageOS 15 ROM for Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus has only begun now, expect it to come with few rough corners. We don’t it’s suited to be your daily driver, but we hope that as the development continues, it’s would become a stable ROM enough to be trusted as your daily ROM.
Right now, the Android 8.0 Oreo update is not available for many devices officially. You have only Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P as the only smartphone that currently run on Android 8.0, while the Pixel 2 is rumored to be powered by Android 8.1 on launch. For what it’s worth, even though not available for download, the OnePlus 3 Oreo update is available for selected bunch of users under the closed-beta testing.
