Baghead wants nothing: return the Special Moonshine, go back empty-handed, and confirm that you are giving him nothing to trigger his secret ending.
Baghead’s whole quest is a riddle, and the punchline is that the “special” offering he keeps hinting at is no offering at all. The Special Moonshine he nudges you toward is bait — you pick it up, he rejects it, and the trick is to put it back and return with empty hands. Be warned before you commit: this is a joke path that ends the game with a short cutscene and rolls the credits, so save it for when you’re curious rather than mid-run.
Where to find Baghead
| Thing | Detail |
|---|---|
| Baghead | On a stone throne at Desolate Peak, in front of the Illusionist’s Cache dungeon |
| Nearby beacon | Citadel of Penance — a jump pad beside it launches you to the island |
| Special Moonshine | On a crate near the Illusionist’s Cache entrance — the bait item he rejects |
| Result | The Bag Holder trophy and the joke secret ending |
Baghead sits on a stone throne on a small floating island called Desolate Peak, surrounded by a crowd of bag-headed followers gathered around a campfire. To get there, head to the Citadel of Penance beacon just outside the castle and take the jump pad that flings you across to the island. He’s the rare enemy who talks instead of swinging, so you’ll know him the moment he opens with a line about “another follower.”
Early write-ups differ a little on the surrounding geography — you’ll see the wider area tied to names like Fainweald and Gloomshade Grove depending on the source — but the on-screen labels you’re actually looking for are Desolate Peak and the Citadel of Penance beacon, and those get you to the throne every time.
How to give Baghead nothing in Mortal Shell 2
The offering you hand over changes as you go, so the trick is doing it in order and ending with empty hands.
STEP 1/8
Reach Baghead at Desolate Peak

Take the jump pad by the Citadel of Penance beacon to the island and speak to Baghead on his throne to open his dialogue.
STEP 2/8
Sit with his followers

Walk to the spot beside his followers near the campfire and sit down for a moment, then stand back up.
STEP 3/8
Agree to help

Talk to Baghead again and pick YES when he asks if you think you’re any different — he’ll ask for something special that’s “not hard to find, but rarely enjoyed.”
STEP 4/8
Pick up the Special Moonshine

Grab the Special Moonshine from the crate near the Illusionist’s Cache entrance, bring it to Baghead, and let him reject it.
STEP 5/8
Read the nearby note

Step into the small stone building and read the note on the table — its line about giving everything and still not understanding “nothing” is the real hint.
STEP 6/8
Put the Special Moonshine back

Return to the crate and use PUT MOONSHINE BACK so you’re carrying nothing at all.
STEP 7/8
Return to Baghead empty-handed

Speak to him one more time; he’ll note that you’re back and you have nothing.
STEP 8/8
Confirm you’re giving him nothing

Keep choosing YES through his final “You sure? This is your final chance” prompt to trigger the ending.
Put the Special Moonshine back on its crate before your last visit — holding it or offering it again keeps the riddle unsolved, and answering “No” to any of his final questions cancels the ending.

The clue that points to nothing
Baghead never says the word “nothing” as an instruction — he buries it in how he talks. When he sends you off he tells you to “drop your offerin’ in the pile,” and later he lets slip that “some say nothing is the best gift of all.” That phrasing is the whole answer hiding in plain sight.
The note in the nearby building spells it out from the other side. It reads like a follower’s confession: the more he gives, the less his master cares, and even after abandoning everything he owns he’s told he still doesn’t understand nothing. Read together, the dialogue and the note are pointing at the same joke — the “special” thing Baghead wants isn’t rare loot, it’s the act of showing up with your hands empty.

The Bag Holder trophy and what changes after
Committing to nothing completes the quest and unlocks a hidden trophy — it shows on screen as Bag Holder, with the description “You’ve mastered nothing and this is your reward,” though a few early listings file the same reward under the name “Baghead,” so don’t be thrown if you see it called that. There’s the catch worth repeating: this is an alternate joke ending. Your character gives up on the main objective, a cutscene plays where you take Baghead’s place on the throne, and the credits roll.
It doesn’t cost you your save. Once the credits finish you can simply reload your previous save and everything is back exactly where you left it — the one lasting change is that Baghead is no longer sitting in his chair at Desolate Peak, and his throne stands empty when you return.
The Troubadour’s Lute and other loose ends

You’ll spot the Troubadour’s Lute turn up in the ending sequence — your character plays it while seated on the throne — and it can be picked up from a tavern next to the One Legged Wolf beacon. Whether you actually need it in your inventory for the cutscene to fire isn’t confirmed, so grab it beforehand if you want to be safe, but don’t treat it as a hard requirement.
Finally, set your expectations on the payoff: there’s no gear, currency, or buff tied to this quest. The reward is the trophy and the cutscene, and that’s the entire point of the gag.
