To get Eredrim in Mortal Shell 2, travel to the Citadel of Penance in Fainweald, reach The Warden’s arena, defeat The Warden, then interact with Eredrim’s body to inhabit the shell.
Eredrim, the Venerable is the tanky, high-health shell in Mortal Shell 2, and it’s one you can reach surprisingly early once you know the path. The catch is that it’s locked behind a boss — The Warden — buried inside the Citadel of Penance, and the shell only becomes yours after that fight is over. Below is the exact route from the opening area, how to handle the boss, and what Eredrim brings to your roster.
Where Eredrim sits and what unlocks it
| Detail | Answer |
|---|---|
| Region | Fainweald |
| Area | Citadel of Penance |
| Boss | The Warden |
| Requirement | Defeat The Warden |
| Final interaction | Approach Eredrim’s body and choose Yes to inhabit |
Eredrim doesn’t drop from a chest or wait on a pedestal — the shell is the reward for clearing a boss. Its body lies in The Warden’s arena at the heart of the Citadel of Penance in the Fainweald region, and the game won’t let you inhabit it until the fight is done and you accept the prompt over the corpse.

How to reach Eredrim from the start of Mortal Shell 2
This route traces the whole trip from the opening area to The Warden’s arena, and you can run most of it without stopping to fight.
STEP 1/13
Leave the starting area

From the game’s opening area, run up to the chapel-like building and into the village section — you can sprint straight past the enemies here.
STEP 2/13
Cross Mushroom Village

Move through Mushroom Village toward the right-hand section and break through the small doorway on that side.
STEP 3/13
Climb the left staircase

Go up the staircase just to the left, then continue up into the higher part of the village.
STEP 4/13
Loop through the upper village

Loop around, pass through the doorway, and follow the path out toward the beacon.
STEP 5/13
Reach the One Legged Wolf beacon

Interact with the crystal pillar to set your spawn point at One Legged Wolf.
STEP 6/13
Drop down for upgrade materials

Head up, then drop onto the wooden platform below and loot the upgrade materials from the glowing remains.
STEP 7/13
Cross the wooden bridge

Run along the long wooden walkway that leads away from the beacon.
STEP 8/13
Turn left up the stone stairs

At the far side, take a left and climb the stone staircase.
STEP 9/13
Clear the ambush and use the pillar

An enemy jumps you the moment you step out — kill it, then interact with the item on the stone pillar to teleport into the Citadel of Penance.
STEP 10/13
Ride the wooden elevator up

Inside, head to the left, run around, and step onto the wooden elevator platform to rise up to the courtyard.
STEP 11/13
Drop into the arena

From the courtyard, drop through the central hole to fall into the arena and trigger The Warden.
STEP 12/13
Defeat The Warden

Fight defensively, parry the attacks, and take The Warden down — full tactics are below.
STEP 13/13
Inhabit Eredrim

Approach the slumped shell, take the Inhabit Unknown Shell prompt, and choose Yes to claim Eredrim.
Play The Warden defensively and lean on parries — the boss’s swings parry cleanly, and a couple of posture breaks can end the fight before it ever gets dangerous.

Beating The Warden in the arena
The Warden is a manageable fight if you slow down and stop trying to trade blows. Keep away from the corner of the room, because a second enemy can join in from there — and if that add does spawn, drop everything and kill it immediately so you’re not juggling two threats at once.
From there it’s a reading fight. The red attacks are the ones to respect: dodge those, but everything else parries surprisingly easily, and the Axatana handles the timing well. Land those parries and you’ll open up posture breaks for heavy punishes. Honestly, you can win this almost purely on defense — practice the parry windows, punish only when you’re safe, and let the posture damage do the work until the boss goes down.

The Citadel Gate Lever alternative
The One Legged Wolf teleport is the fastest way in, but if you’re already poking around western Fainweald there’s a second entrance through the front of the fortress. Track down the Citadel Gate Lever — it’s dropped by a Lithopod boss southeast of the Citadel — and use it on the main gate to open the Citadel of Penance directly.
Key Once you’re inside, work down through the cells and lower levels into the pit-like dungeon beneath the courtyard, then find the lift and ride it up toward the center. That drops you at the exact same central arena, so you still finish at The Warden and claim Eredrim the same way.
What the Eredrim shell gives you
| Trait | What it does |
|---|---|
| Shell identity | High-health, tanky shell |
| Shoulder Bash | Shoulder charge that deals heavy break damage for staggers |
| Ethereal Diapason | Shell ability |
| Executioner | Passive trait |
Eredrim is the tank of the roster — a high-health shell built to soak hits that would knock you out of a lighter shell. Its standout move is Shoulder Bash, a shoulder charge that deals big break damage and is brutal for staggering enemies, which is exactly why it’s worth the detour early.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you grab Eredrim early in Mortal Shell 2?
Yes — it’s one of the earliest shells you can realistically reach. The route runs from the very start of the game, and since you can sprint past most of the enemies along the way, the only real wall is The Warden. Grabbing that extra health pool this early makes the rest of Fainweald noticeably kinder.
Do you have to defeat The Warden before inhabiting Eredrim?
Yes, and there’s no shortcut around it. The shell can’t be picked up before the fight — approaching the center of the arena is what collapses the floor and forces the encounter, so the boss is unavoidable. Only after The Warden falls does the body become interactable for you to claim.
What should you do if the Citadel lift is already raised?
Look for the handle next to it. There’s a lever near the wooden elevator that brings it back down, so if you (or a stray interaction) already sent it up, just pull the handle to lower the platform, then ride it back up to the courtyard.
