Shadowstep is one of Coen’s early-game vampire abilities, pairing aimed movement with a faster quick-cast option. It can cover terrain precisely or in rapid bursts, and the same ability can protect Coen during a dangerous drop.
How to use Shadowstep in The Blood of Dawnwalker
Key Use aimed casts when placement matters and quick casts when you need to move rapidly.
- Activate Shadowstep — At night, hold RT to activate Shadowstep and reveal the destination marker on the ground.
- Set the teleport destination — Keep RT held and move the right stick until the marker reaches your intended destination.
- Perform consecutive quick casts — Tap RT repeatedly to teleport in quick succession, watching the golden stamina bar at the bottom left because each cast consumes stamina.
How to upgrade Shadowstep through Shadow Dweller

Open the Character menu, select the Vampirism skill tree, and choose Shadow Dweller.
The later Shadow Dweller upgrade becomes available at Corruption level 11. Unlocking it costs 1 skill point and uses one segment of the day.
How to prevent fall damage with Shadowstep
After jumping from a high ledge, wait until Coen is just above the landing surface, then press RT to activate Shadowstep immediately before impact and eliminate fall damage.
