Huawei releases EMUI 9.1 update beta (OTA) for Mate 20 Lite, P10, Nova 3/3i/2s, Honor 8X, 10, and 9

Huawei recently announced the devices that will be receiving the update to EMUI 9.1 in the coming weeks. Not to waste any time, the P30 Pro maker is already seeding a beta version of this update to several of its devices, including those from sub-brand Honor.

The list is quite sizeable owing to the huge number of devices the company pumps into the market annually. As expected, the Huawei P30 series is left out since it has Android Pie-based EMUI 9.1 pre-installed.

Here are the devices receiving the first EMUI 9.1 beta update.

Although the updates rolling out bring EMUI 9.1 to these devices, the firmware version is a little different. For instance, those using the Mate 20 Lite, Honor P10 and P10 Plus, Nova 3i, Nova 2s, Honor 9, and Honor V9 are receiving EMUI

If you have the Honor 10, Honor V10 or Honor Play, the new update is arriving as EMUI The same update is also rolling out as EMUI to the Honor 8X and to the Nova 3.

Despite the differences in the firmware version, these updates have the same changelog. According to Huawei, EMUI 9.1 is meant to streamline and enhance the quality of your experience and to achieve this, it had to do the following:

  • Huawei Vlog now has more features and effects, including auto-generation of highlight reels and creating MVs with a single touch
  • The new update optimizes Huawei’s digital assistant to allow the use of commands to do things like taking a selfie, recording slow motion videos, get calorie info, scan QR codes, recognize and identify stuff, and even search images
  • Perhaps the biggest addition of them all, especially for gamers, is that GPU Turbo acceleration tech now supports dozens of other games. With this feature, you will be able to enjoy an improved gaming experience
  • After installing EMUI 9.1 on your device, you’ll enjoy more simplified settings and options that are easier to operate. For instance, TrustSpace is now available under Settings > Security & privacy while auto-update settings of the phone number directory and business card templates have now been merged under Auto-update databases.

Of course, there are plenty of other little changes that Huawei has sneaked everywhere into the software. It will take some time before getting to know all of them.

Just so you know, these updates are internal testing versions and thus availability is limited to a few units of each device for those using Chinese variants. However, we expect Huawei to begin rolling out the stable version across the globe in the coming days.
