If you are wondering why your call recording apps won’t work with the Pie update, then to put it simply, Google has removed the option right within Android 9 Pie for third-party apps to record calls.

How to record calls with Cube Call Recorder ACR
Fortunately, the app does not require you to have a rooted device to record the calls. The entire process from downloading the app to recording a call should only take a minute or so.
- Download and install the Cube Call Recorder ACR app by clicking here.
- Launch the app after it’s installed on your device.
- You’d be asked to agree to a few conditions; tap on AGREE to proceed.
- On the next screen, tap on GRANT PERMISSIONS.
- Tap on Allow for all the required permissions.
- You might see a subtle message which informs you that the application would not be able to record calls from VoIP apps.
- Ignore the message and tap on OK, CONTINUE.
- The app has a cool Geotagging feature as well; however, you could opt out of the feature by tapping on NO, THANKS or if you’re interested in the feature, simply tap YES.
- On the following screen, tap on PHONE and you’re all set.
You could begin making calls as usual and the application would automatically begin recording your calls for you.

How to make sure the call recorder app doesn’t stop working
To make sure the app does not get put to sleep in the background by the System, you’d have to remove the application from the Optimized applications list.
To do that, Go to Settings > Apps > Tap the 3-dots button > Special access > Optimize battery usage. From the drop-down menu select All and then toggle off the setting for the Cube ACR application.
Now, your device’s system knows that you have specifically authorized the Cube Call Recorder app to be given full freedom to run in the background, so it won’t close the app in the background automatically to save battery.
Yes, this means the recording app will eat slightly more battery, but it has to anyway if you want to record calls.
How to listen to your call recordings
Listening to the recorded calls is fairly simple.
- Launch the Cube ACRÂ application.
- You’d be able to see all the recorded calls in a list.
- Simply tapping on the calls would play the call recording.
The application also has various other settings to play around with including a dark mode option. You could also opt for the premium version of the app which enables a few more options within the app and can also let you pick which format to save the call recordings in. You can also easily delete any call recording you may want to.
Why Google removed the call recording ability from Android Pie?
The decision to remove call recording capabilities from Android Pie actually due to a legal complication by Vodafone in Germany, where both users must know that the call is being recorded.
Currently, the person on the other end of the call would have no clue that the call is being recorded unless and until the person recording the call informs them.
This brings along various privacy issues which is why Google had to eliminate the call recording feature from Android 9 Pie.

Hi, i install ACR unchained v. 31-0. On my Samsung S8 with Android 9, on last 4 calls – i have 4 rejected. This version You can find without problem on internet, not on Google Play Store.
I don’t know why it’s the only app that does it well, but IT WORKS!!! I have a Galaxy S9 on pie. I have Boldbeast Call Recorder and the recordings are much better on Cube than on Boldbeast. It’s not a great as it used to be on Orea but what will do for now! Thank you very much!
When I go to the Google Play Store, it says the Cube ACR app is not compatible with my note 8. Are there any workarounds to get this downloaded?
Working fine for me on latest build on my note 9 so well in fact I opted to pay for 3 months of the premium version.
Search for the Cube ACR apk and download and install. Of course Google won’t allow anyone to download that app from its store! It’s like saying to the world, “we don’t support your privacy!”

To get call recording to work either change csc or root and do it that way……….
Google have all informations about us. There is NO privacy at all on the internet and we can’t record our calls ?!. Strange. We pay for mobiles, we pay for plans, we pay for EVERYTHING. I hate this decision, because that was great think for work and I’m pretty sure for many people…
Anyone that says you can record calls with Android 9 is lying. Android 9 was FORCED ON US BY GOOGLE AND SAMSUNG and it has crippled call recording on my Galaxy S8 without my knowledge or consent. I will never buy samsung again and I am probably going to abandon android.
You make a good point: Google did that without our permission. Google takes away our privacy, but also our protection of being able to prove the truth. Google delivers us to the Totalitarian State.
