What to know
- The first Festival Playlist (“Welcome to Japan”) starts on May 21, 2026.
- You still need to unlock Horizon Festival access by earning the Yellow Wristband.
- The Playlist becomes available after roughly 1 hour of gameplay progression.
- Series 1 includes 10 reward cars and seasonal weekly events.
A lot of players were confused during early access of Forza Horizon 6 because the Festival Playlist menu existed in-game before any actual seasonal content was live. Playground Games has now confirmed that the first real Festival Playlist season, called “Welcome to Japan,” officially begins on May 21, 2026.
That means even players who started during Premium Edition early access could not fully participate in Playlist activities immediately.
Quick overview of the Festival Playlist launch
| Feature | Details |

| Official start date | May 21, 2026 |
| Requirement | Yellow Wristband |

Playground Games intentionally delayed the first Playlist by a few days so players could focus on exploring Japan and progressing through the new Wristband system first. Forza Horizon 6 launched in stages:
| Release Phase | RELEASE Date |
|---|---|
| Premium Edition Early Access | May 15 |
| Full Release | May 19 |
| Festival Playlist Series 1 | May 21 |
This is why many players initially saw an empty or inactive Playlist tab during early access.

How to unlock the Festival Playlist in Forza Horizon 6
Even once Series 1 goes live, the Playlist still remains locked until you officially join the Horizon Festival.
Complete the opening tutorial
The game begins with cinematic races and introduction events across Japan. These tutorial sections teach:
| Early Gameplay Features | Included Content |
|---|---|
| Touge driving | Mountain roads and drifting |
| Street racing | Tokyo highway events |
| Off-road racing | Dirt and trail routes |
| Weather systems | Dynamic seasonal changes |
| Festival progression | Wristbands and qualifiers |
You cannot access seasonal Playlist content during this section.
Reach the Horizon Qualifier
After free roam unlocks, the game introduces Horizon progression events. Completing races and activities earns Horizon Festival Points.

According to official Forza progression details, these points are required to unlock your first Wristband.
Eventually, the Horizon Qualifier event appears on the map.
Finish the Horizon Invitational
Completing the qualifier unlocks the Horizon Invitational, which acts as your official entry into the Horizon Festival.
This event is the final requirement before the Playlist becomes accessible.
Earn the Yellow Wristband

After completing the Invitational, you receive the Yellow Wristband.
This is the exact unlock requirement for Festival Playlist access. Multiple reports confirm the Playlist becomes available once players obtain their first Wristband.
