Can you crouch in Genshin Impact?

Technically yes, practically no. Genshin Impact allows your characters to crouch only during specific stealth missions. Once the mission is complete, the ability to crouch is taken away from your character.

You will be shown on-screen controls that show you how to crouch during a stealth mission. In addition to this, you will also get the ability to throw objects to distract NPCs. The controls for this will also be shown on your screen during specific missions.

Can you crouch in the open world?

Sadly no. Crouch is not a built-in mechanic that can be activated anywhere in the open world. Crouch is unavailable when you are exploring the continent of Teyvat and only becomes available during certain stealth missions in the game.

You can then use crouch to explore the map without notifying NPCs. If the NPCs notice you, the mission will fail and you will have to attempt it again from the start.

Why is crouching unavailable in the open world?

Crouching is usually used to access tight spaces and gain an advantage during combat. Unlike other FPS RPG games, the world of Teyvat does not have that many hidden tight spaces that will need to be accessed using the Crouch button.

Additionally, the tight spaces that do exist do not require crouch as your character will duck down and fit into such spaces automatically.

Having the ability to crouch although would greatly benefit players and have them take out enemies using stealth. But this would require an additional points system which can be a bit challenging and a lot of work for the developers. For now, there is no indication from miHoYo if crouch will be added as a native function in Genshin Impact in the near future.
