Raw materials in AC Valhalla: A brief
For the most part, Valhalla is a game filled with brutish characters, ruthless action, and some very well-directed moments you’d know if you caught up on its Viking lore. Set that aside, and you’d realize that Vikings were actually very caring of their own settlements. Emphasis on ‘their own’. So, AC Valhalla as an RPG gives you the ability to be able to upgrade and enforce Eivor’s own settlement.
The bulk of the settlement-driven gameplay of Valhalla really kicks in once you arrive on the shores of Old England. The game seamlessly fits you into the Ravensthorpe settlement which you, as Eivor, can upgrade through the settlement construction system.
Upgrading your settlement brings about a host of new variety to your playthrough, but first, you’ll need to get your hands on some precious resources if you’re ever gonna get started.
The most important of these resources are supplies and raw materials. These are what help you get your settlement up and running. Need Barracks at your home? Wanna build a Shipyard? How about that Fishing Hut that needs to get done?
Well, of course, you need a Trading post if you’re gonna be trading goods. All of these upgrades to your settlements will require you to have an ample amount of Raw Materials and Supplies. And the way you go about getting those resources? One word: Raids.
Find raw materials faster in AC Valhalla with Raids
If drinking horns filled with mead is what Vikings love to do best, then going on Raids and being darn good at it is essentially second nature to them. A scary one at that. Raiding in AC Valhalla, in a nutshell, is attacking an enemy camp or monastery and then killing any who stand in between you and all the hidden resources present there.
Embarking on a raid is pretty straightforward in Valhalla. You need to set a marker for places on the map which are marked with 2 red axes. However, while doing so, be extremely cautious that you have the required power level before setting out. If you show up for a raid that’s above your pay grade, then you’re gonna encounter enemies that’ll give you the Dark Souls-flashbacks when you’re least prepared for it.
There are two ways to initiate a raid in AC Valhalla. One is to approach the location on foot, by land. The second one and (and this is the one you can actually see in the gameplay from above) is that you approach the camp by ship and begin the raid.
Your goal in the raid primarily is not to kill all the enemies present-but to loot their supplies and raw materials hidden in their camp or monastery. However, in order to have an easier time doing so, we suggest that you really do try and kill as many enemies as you can. This would make your process of looting easier and ensure that you don’t miss out on anything important.
After you’ve had your fill of gathering up all the loot and scalps in that camp or monastery, it’s time for you to bid them adieu. Of course, this authentic Viking experience is remiss without a healthy helping of mead to wash it all down.
Head back to your settlement to see what you need to upgrade next or seek out another raid till you’ve mustered up all the resources.
Well, that’s all there is to gather supplies and raw materials for your playthrough in Valhalla. There are also numerous wealth locations that are found all across the vast map for you to explore and loot.
Pro tip: You can find extra raw materials at ‘wealth locations’ and even metal ingots to help enforce your weapons in the game. Wealth locations such as the Deserted Chalet in Valhalla are marked as golden bars that appear on your map once you’ve discovered them.
