Unlock the Coiled Isle by starting The Curse of Ula’tek campaign in Silvermoon City and finishing the first two campaign chapters; the Silvermoon shortcut is tied to Astalor’s Sanctum and the Preyhunter’s Journey portal reward, while alts can skip Chapter 1 after it has been completed once.
Coiled Isle is the Patch 12.1 outdoor zone for World of Warcraft: Midnight, sitting beside Zul’Aman rather than inside Silvermoon itself. Treat the first unlock as a campaign route: Silvermoon starts the story, Zul’Aman carries it forward, and the portal becomes useful only after its own Preyhunter’s Journey reward is opened.
Coiled Isle requirements for mains, portals, and alts
For a main character, the short answer is campaign first, portal later. The city portal is a convenience shortcut between Astalor’s Sanctum and Tokka’s Landing; it is not the first requirement for entering the zone.
The island sits near Zul’Aman, and forcing your way through the fog before the campaign gate is cleared only wastes time. Use the table below to separate the unlock path from the travel shortcut.
| Goal | What |
|---|---|
| Unlock Coiled Isle on your main | Start The Curse of Ula’tek in central Silvermoon City, finish The Legacy of the Amani, then clear Chapter 2 until the isle route opens. |
| Reach it before the shortcut | Fly out from Zul’Aman toward Tokka’s Landing after the campaign gate is cleared. |
| Use the Silvermoon shortcut | Open I Summon Thee in Preyhunter’s Journey, then use the Astalor’s Sanctum portal pair. |
| Bring alts | Use the Warband unlock for activities; talk to Orewyna in Silvermoon City if you want the Chapter 1 story skip. |
How to open the Coiled Isle route in World of Warcraft
This route takes a first character from the Silvermoon campaign starter into the Chapter 2 crossing toward the Coiled Isle.
STEP 1/5
Accept Halduron’s Invitation
Talk to Orewyna in central Silvermoon City and accept Halduron’s Invitation to begin The Legacy of the Amani.

STEP 2/5
Finish The Legacy of the Amani
Complete Chapter 1 of The Curse of Ula’tek so the 12.1 follow-up can appear.

STEP 3/5
Accept A Call for Aid
Go to Zul’Aman, speak with Lady Liadrin, and take A Call for Aid to begin the next chapter.

STEP 4/5
Push the Chapter 2 questline
Continue the Chapter 2 chain from Zul’Aman until it points your character toward the Coiled Isle.

STEP 5/5
Cross after the campaign sends you
Fly from Zul’Aman toward the island when the route opens; What Lies Beyond the Fog is the Chapter 2 campaign step tied to full Coiled Isle access.

Coiled Isle route through Zul’Aman
Before the portal shortcut is available, treat Zul’Aman as the staging point. Once your campaign sends you across, fly out from Zul’Aman toward Tokka’s Landing on the Coiled Isle, using the crossing near the isle rather than searching Silvermoon for an early portal.
The fog around the island is a gate, not a travel puzzle. If your character is pushed out or cannot stay in the zone, return to the Chapter 2 campaign line and continue until What Lies Beyond the Fog clears the barrier.
Silvermoon portal at Astalor’s Sanctum
The portal pair is centered on Astalor’s Sanctum, the Prey hub inside Silvermoon City. From the Coiled Isle side, the portal at Tokka’s Landing sends you to Astalor’s Sanctum; from the city side, the Orb of Translocation near Silvermoon’s portal room moves you into the Sanctum so you can take the Coiled Isle portal back.
- Coiled Isle to Silvermoon: Use the portal at Tokka’s Landing to arrive inside Astalor’s Sanctum.
- Silvermoon to Coiled Isle: Use the Orb of Translocation near the main portal room, enter Astalor’s Sanctum, then take the portal to the Coiled Isle.
- Other Midnight zones: There are no direct Coiled Isle portals to the other Midnight outdoor zones, and there is no Coiled Isle-to-Zul’Aman portal either; route through Silvermoon City.
The portal unlock itself comes from Preyhunter’s Journey. The reward to look for is I Summon Thee, which adds the portal after you defeat your Prey target, and the path runs through a Nightmare Prey hunt on the Coiled Isle, such as Prey: Jaxon the Fang.
That timing matters for the first week. Normal and Hard Prey open before the Nightmare Mode and Curse of the Isle schedule, so use the flying route until your character can complete the Preyhunter’s Journey requirement.
Temporary travel before the portal reward
Until the portal reward is active for your character, the clean loop is old-fashioned flying. Start from Silvermoon City, move through Zul’Aman, and cross toward the Coiled Isle after the campaign gate is open.
Before the portal is available, set your Hearthstone on or near the Coiled Isle route and use Personal Key to the Arcantina for a 15-minute return to Silvermoon City.
Personal Key to the Arcantina is useful here because it gives you a frequent Silvermoon return without moving your main Hearthstone off the island route. That setup is especially valuable during the first week of the content update or on any character still waiting on the Preyhunter’s Journey reward.
Alt access and the Chapter 1 skip
Separate zone access from story progress. Once the Coiled Isle is open for your Warband, alts can reach its available activities without replaying the full Silvermoon and Zul’Aman opener, but choosing to play the campaign still places that alt at its own campaign chapter.
| Alt goal | Route |
|---|---|
| Enter Coiled Isle activities | Use the Warband zone unlock for world quests, weekly quests, and outdoor activities your account progress has opened. |
| Skip the opener story | Talk to Orewyna in Silvermoon City and choose the Chapter 1 skip; the alt starts at Chapter 2. |
| Chase campaign gear or later rewards | Continue the story from Chapter 2 on that alt; later chapters remain character work unless another skip appears in-game. |
The skip is handled by Orewyna in Silvermoon City. It skips Chapter 1 and leaves the alt at Chapter 2, so it is a time-saver for the opener, not an all-chapters completion button.
Coiled Isle troubleshooting
If the fog keeps throwing you out, your character is ahead of the gate. Return to Zul’Aman and continue Chapter 2 until the Coiled Isle crossing opens.
If you are standing in Silvermoon and cannot find a direct portal to every Midnight zone, that is expected: the Coiled Isle shortcut is tied to Astalor’s Sanctum, while other zone travel still routes through Silvermoon City.
If the Tokka’s Landing portal is missing, check your Preyhunter’s Journey progress and complete the I Summon Thee reward path through the required Prey hunt. If an alt still shows campaign quests, remember that Orewyna’s skip only removes Chapter 1; it does not finish the whole story.
