What to know
- You need three Repair Tool fragments to unlock the blueprint.
- All fragments are relatively close to the starting Lifepod area.
- The final fragment is located inside the Altera starship wreck.
- The Repair Tool is required to access important progression areas later.
The Repair Tool is one of the first major progression tools you should unlock in Subnautica 2. It allows you to repair damaged doors, restore systems, maintain vehicles, and access hidden wreck interiors that contain valuable blueprints and story content.
Fortunately, all three blueprint fragments can be found fairly early if you know where to search.
Quick overview of all Repair Tool fragment locations
| Fragment | Direction From Lifepod | Distance | Landmark | Location Details |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fragment #1 | Southeast | ~210m | Large Spire | Found on a table inside lower entryway |
| Fragment #2 | South | ~200m | Large Structure | Sitting on a couch inside an open room |
| Fragment #3 | Northeast | ~350m | Altera Starship Wreck | Near a doorway inside wreck interior |
Where to find the first Repair Tool fragment
The first fragment is located southeast of the Lifepod near a massive rock spire formation.

Travel roughly 210 meters southeast from your starting pod until you spot a tall rocky spire extending upward from the seafloor. Near the base of the formation, you will notice a lower entryway leading into a small structure.

Inside, the Repair Tool fragment rests on top of a table.
| Threat | Notes |
|---|---|
| Limited Oxygen | Bring extra air if exploring slowly |
| Low Visibility | Use a flashlight or flare |
| Tight Pathways | Watch movement carefully |
This is usually the easiest fragment to obtain early.

How to reach the second Repair Tool fragment
The second fragment is slightly easier to locate because it sits inside a large visible structure south of the Lifepod.
Step 1: Travel directly south from the Lifepod
Swim approximately 200 meters south until you encounter a large damaged structure on the seabed.

Step 2: Locate the open doorway
Circle around to the far side of the structure until you find an open entrance leading inside.

Step 3: Search the interior room
Inside the room, you will find the fragment resting on a couch.
This area often contains additional loot and useful supplies, so it is worth exploring thoroughly before leaving.

How to find the final fragment inside the Altera wreck
The third Repair Tool fragment is located much farther away inside the massive Altera starship wreck northeast of the Lifepod.

This is the most important location because it also introduces one of the earliest progression gates in the game.
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Direction | Northeast |
| Distance | ~350m |
| Environment | Large wreck interior |
| Recommended Gear | Extra oxygen, flashlight, medkits |
| Risk Level | Moderate |
Step 1: Travel northeast toward the wreck
Head roughly 350 meters northeast until the enormous Altera wreck becomes visible.
The wreck is difficult to miss because of its massive size and damaged hull sections.

Step 2: Navigate toward the lower section
Move carefully along the outer structure until you locate a large opening near the bottom of the wreck.

Step 3: Enter the interior area
Swim through the opening and navigate deeper inside.
The final Repair Tool fragment can be found near a doorway inside the wreck interior.
Once scanned, the Repair Tool blueprint unlocks automatically.

Repair Tool crafting recipe
After scanning all three fragments, head back to your Fabricator to craft the tool.
| Material | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Titanium | Structural frame |
| Silicone Rubber | Insulation and grip |
| Battery | Power source |
These materials are generally available in the starting biomes, making the Repair Tool one of the first advanced tools most players craft.

How to use the Repair Tool
Equip the Repair Tool from your hotbar and aim at damaged objects while holding the interaction button.
The tool repairs:
| Repairable Object | Usage |
|---|---|
| Damaged Doors | Unlocks new wreck sections |
| Lifepod Systems | Restores functions |
| Vehicles | Repairs hull damage |
| Base Modules | Fixes flooding and structural damage |
| Power Systems | Restores functionality |
The tool consumes battery power continuously while active, so carrying spare batteries is highly recommended.
The Altera wreck repair door is important
One major detail many players miss is the damaged door located inside the Altera wreck near the third fragment.
After crafting the Repair Tool, return to this wreck and repair the broken door mechanism.

Doing so opens access to a central interior section that contains important progression content and additional exploration opportunities.
Without the Repair Tool, this area remains inaccessible.
Best preparation before fragment hunting
| Recommended Item | Why It Helps |
|---|---|
| Extra Oxygen Tank | Longer exploration time |
| Flashlight | Better wreck visibility |
| Flares | Emergency lighting |
| Medkits | Safety inside wrecks |
| Scanner | Required for blueprint progress |
Most of these items can be crafted very early using starter resources.
Why the Repair Tool matters so much early game
The Repair Tool acts as a progression gateway throughout Subnautica 2. Many important locations, blueprints, and story sections require repaired systems or damaged doors to access.
Unlocking it early dramatically improves exploration freedom and survivability.
Unlocking the Repair Tool early in Subnautica 2 makes exploration far smoother and opens access to critical progression areas hidden inside wrecks and damaged facilities.
Since all three fragments are located relatively close to the Lifepod, this should be one of your first major technology goals before venturing into deeper biomes.
The Altera wreck fragment is especially important because it also introduces one of the game’s first major repair-based progression paths.
