Over the past few weeks, the story in Sony Mobile’s camp has been all about the midrange Xperia XA2, Xperia XA2 Ultra and Xperia L2. but that’s to say Sony doesn’t have a flagship being worked upon under the radar — in fact they have three flagships under the works for you: the Xperia XZ1 Premium, Xperia XZ1 Plus and Xperia XZ1s.
Even though we were adamant that Sony will not end the MWC at the midrange level, it’s only until now that we have more concrete details, including the full images, about its next set of premium devices: the Xperia XZ1 Premium, XZ1 Plus and XZ1s. As you may have guessed, these are successors to the Xperia XZ Premium and Xperia XZs that were unveiled at the MWC 2017, but the Xperia XZ1 Plus is a completely new name, though not strange in the smartphone world.
Sony Xperia XZ1 Premium specs
As per the leaked info, the Sony Xperia XZ1 Premium is obviously the most premium model of the trio. The phone will reportedly rock a 5.46-inch HDR LCD display screen with a 4K resolution, similar to its predecessor and under the hood, the powerful Snapdragon 845 will run the show alongside 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage will also be available.
On the back of the Xperia XZ1 Premium, you’ll come across a 12MP dual-lens camera while the front will get a 13MP shooter for selfies. The images above have the fingerprint sensor mounted on the power button itself, which is a usual for Sony flagships, but also something that’s not so welcomed in the US. Hopefully, these are the prototype sets of the XZ1 Premium, and that the final product would have the ever-important sensor relocated to the back, something which we have seen on the Sony’s XA2 family, as also the XZ1 Plus handset right below.
The XZ1 Premium should come with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, BTW, topped with Sony’s ever-minimal custom skin, Xperia UI.
Sony Xperia XZ1 Plus specs
Sony unveiled the Xperia XZ1 at the IFA 2017 in September. From the name, it’s obvious that the Xperia XZ1 Plus is a direct upgrade over the XZ1. The phone will rock a 5.5-inch HDR LCD screen with a full HD resolution and for the hardware, you get the same Snapdragon 845 SoC, but the RAM and storage are demoted to 4GB and 64GB, respectively.
The camera setup and resolutions, as well as the location of the fingerprint scanner, remain the same as the Xperia XZ1 Premium.
Sony Xperia XZ1s specs
Posing as a successor to the Xperia XZs, the XZ1s has the same 5.2-inch LCD display screen with a full HD resolution, however, you get the outgoing Snapdragon 835 SoC on board and even though old, it’s an upgrade over the Snapdragon 820 used on the XZs.
Make no mistake, the Snapdragon 835 is no slouch. Like many other 2017 flagships, this chipset will be mated with a 4GB RAM module and 64GB of storage will be at your disposal. The 12MP dual camera setup on the back and 13MP selfie shooter keep their places – and so does the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.
Although not mentioned, the three Sony Xperia phones will come preinstalled with Android Oreo out of the box. Also, note that since the trio has about two months before the official launch, it’s possible that the leaked images might not be a true representation of the final products.
