Sony’s Android 10 rollout schedule is here

Sony Xperia 1, 10 and 10 Plus

Back in the day, Sony used to one of the leading brands in the smartphone industry. Known for cutting-edge design, enviable specs, and industry-leading camera, Sony had enough to earn its seat at the highest table.

Unfortunately, with the emergence of Google, OnePlus, and other young-blooded companies, Sony lost its way and now stands steps away from shutting down its smartphone division.

As you’d expect, the company has been far from punctual with software updates, failing to deliver even security updates in a timely manner, let alone major Android OS releases. Hence, over 2.5 months after Google released Android 10 for its Pixel lineup, Sony is only coming around to releasing the list of devices that would be blessed with the latest version of Android.

According to Sony’s latest announcement, its current flagships, Xperia 1 and Xperia 5, will receive Android 10 in December 2019, while older devices, such as Xperia 10, 10 Plus, XZ2, XZ2 Compact, XZ2 Premium, and XZ3 are scheduled to get Android in early 2020. Older flagships, Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ Premium, aren’t getting updated to Android 10, at least in the first wave.
