Sony Oreo 8.0 update released for Xperia XZ Premium

After releasing the first device (Sony Xperia XZ1) that comes preinstalled with Android Oreo, Sony has achieved another remarkable feat. Sony has become the first OEM to push stable build of Android 8.0 Oreo to its existing handset.

Sony, in a blog post, has announced that it has started rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo update. And the first device to get Sony Android 8.0 Oreo update is none other than the Sony Xperia XZ Premium. Sony Xperia XZ Premium was launched in February this year at MWC event.

The Android Oreo update will bring new features to Xperia XZ Premium. These include Picture in picture mode, Auto fill for apps, revamped settings, and new emojis. Besides the Oreo specific features, the new update also brings some other cool features to XZ Premium such as 3D creator (introduced with Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact), predictive capture, autofocus burst, improved sound quality and app shortcuts.

While Sony has released the Android 8.0 Oreo update from its end, it may take some time to reach your device depending on the operator and the market. You will get a notification once the update reaches your device. But you can also keep a tab on the update manually by going into Settings – About – Software update.

Now that Sony has started the rollout of Android Oreo, other devices that are destined to get Android Oreo will also taste Android Oreo soon. Some of the devices that will receive Android Oreo are Sony Xperia X, Xperia XZ, Xperia XZs, Xperia XA1 etc. You can check the full list here.

Recently, OnePlus released the beta build of Oreo for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. Earlier today we reported that HTC will release Oreo update for HTC U11 by November end or early December. The other contenders to receive Android Oreo this year include Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+ and Nokia 8.
