Protecting the battery: Charge Limit and Optimized Battery Charging
Charge Limit is available on iPhone 15 models and later, where you can choose a limit between 80 percent and 100 percent in 5 percent increments. iOS can suggest one on its own, with a prompt that reads “Based on your iPhone habits, a charge limit of 95% is recommended to help preserve your battery.” With the limit set below 100 percent, your iPhone will occasionally charge to 100 percent to maintain accurate battery state-of-charge estimates.
Optimized Battery Charging is the separate control, available when Charge Limit is set to 100 percent. It is designed to reduce wear on the battery and improve its lifespan, and it delays charging past 80 percent once enabled.
