Available space on an iPhone Duo is less than the capacity on the box, and Apple says it varies due to many factors. The two deductions Apple puts a number on are the standard configuration and the Apple Intelligence on-device models. Our full iPhone Duo hub covers the rest of the phone.
The short version:
- A standard configuration uses approximately 12GB to 24GB of space, including iOS 27 with its latest features and the Apple apps that can be deleted.
- The Apple Intelligence on-device models use approximately 7GB more, and can be deleted if Apple Intelligence is turned off.
- On a 256GB Duo, the top of that range plus the models works out to about 225GB left.
What Apple actually discloses
The two deductions are counted separately. The Apple Intelligence models are not part of the 12GB to 24GB, so a Duo with Apple Intelligence turned on gives up both.
Neither deduction scales with the tier. The same 24GB at the top of Apple’s range and the same 7GB of models come off a 2TB Duo and a 256GB one.

Apple also says storage capacity is subject to change based on software version, settings, and iPhone model, so the same tier can report different free space on two phones.

The deduction lands hardest on the smallest tier. It comes to about 12 percent of a 256GB Duo and about 1.5 percent of a 2TB one.
Two ways to claw space back
Turning Apple Intelligence off is the bigger of the two. Apple says turning Apple Intelligence on will download the models again, and lists 7 GB of storage on device among the requirements for Apple Intelligence, so the space is committed again the moment you switch it back on.
Deleting Apple apps you never open is the smaller one. Apple puts the deletable set at about 4.5GB of space and says you can download them back from the App Store. Because they are inside the 12GB to 24GB, removing them moves you down within Apple’s range rather than below it. Both removals together come to 11.5GB.

What fills an iPhone Duo fastest
Both rear cameras are 48MP. The Fusion Main and the Fusion Ultra Wide each list super-high-resolution photos at 24MP and 48MP, so the larger file is a setting rather than the only option. 48MP macro photography and panoramas of up to 63MP sit on the same list, and photos are captured as HEIF and JPEG.
Video tops out at 4K Dolby Vision at 120 fps on the Fusion Main. Slo-mo runs to 1080p at up to 240 fps and 4K Dolby Vision at up to 120 fps, time-lapse with stabilization goes up to 4K Dolby Vision, and Dual Capture, which Apple describes as sharing front and rear camera feeds simultaneously, records up to 4K Dolby Vision at 30 fps. Video is recorded as HEVC and H.264.

Is 256GB enough for an iPhone Duo?
Apple applies the same 7 GB of storage on device requirement to every Apple Intelligence device, on iPhone 15 Pro models and iPhone 16 models or later, so that part of the overhead is not particular to the Duo. On a 256GB Duo it is the standard configuration, not Apple Intelligence, that takes the larger share.
Can I add storage to an iPhone Duo later?
No. Apple lists capacity as four fixed options chosen at purchase: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. The published expansion on the Duo is its USB-C connector, which supports charging, DisplayPort and USB 3 (up to 10Gb/s).
Does turning off Apple Intelligence really free 7GB?
Apple’s own word is approximately, so 7GB is not an exact figure. The switch sits in Settings under Apple Intelligence & Siri. Apple also says Apple Intelligence features will not currently work for supported devices purchased in China mainland.
Are the iPhone Duo tiers priced the same in India?
