There are three ways to disable or turn off camera shutter sound on Android phones.

  • Disable shutter sound in camera setting
  • Keep phone on silent mode
  • Use a third party app

Before we dive into our “How-to”, let me warn you that in case even after using the above methods, your phone produces a shutter sound, it’s not an issue with your device, but is related to country laws. Many countries don’t allow smartphones to capture a photo without a shutter sound, hence, to abide by the law, the feature doesn’t work on some devices or in many cases OEM’s remove the feature altogether.

Method 1: Disable camera shutter sound from settings

Most phones usually have a built-in setting to turn off the camera shutter sound. The setting is known by different names on smartphones from different OEMs such as “shutter sound”, “camera sound”, “snap sound”. The names or location of icons given below may change with time, but it would always be present in the camera setting. Plus, the setting might be missing on some devices (remember country laws), well, in that case, move to the method 2.
