How to Get, Use, and Trade Blueprints in Rocket League

Psyonix’s brilliant vehicular soccer video game, Rocket League, has been constantly gaining traction since its blockbuster launch in 2015. Not only does it offer a shot of pure adrenaline with every match, but it also allows you to be creative and an expert economist.

The game is also full of unique ideas and executions; one of which is the focus of our article today. So, without further ado, let’s see what Blueprints are in Rocket League and how to use them effectively in the game.

What is a Blueprint in Rocket League?

As the name suggests, a Blueprint in Rocket League is the basic functional plan of an in-game item. It shows you a preview of how the item would look like after completion and tells you all the means to complete the project.

In practice, a Blueprint is a new type of drop that has replaced the much-revered Crates.

What are “Revealed” and “Unrevealed” Blueprints?

When it first rolled out to millions of users, Rocket League didn’t have a Blueprints system. The game was built on Crates — Blueprints’ predecessor. Crates worked similar to Blueprints, allowing users to build items using their Keys — now Credits.

The Blueprints update finally hit in the final weeks of 2019, creating a bit of confusion. Blueprints were split between “Revealed” and “Unrevealed,” even though worked just the same. The only distinction between the two remains in their origin date.

If you’re a seasoned Rocket League player and had a few unopened Crates in your inventory before the Blueprint update hit, all of the items were converted to “Unrevealed” Blueprints. “Unrevealed items can be converted to “Revealed” for free.

All the Blueprints you’ll receive or have received since the Blueprint update have been of the “Revealed” category.

How to get a Blueprint in Rocket League?

After you successfully complete a Rocket League match, you are presented with the opportunity to obtain a revealed Blueprint. After acquiring a Blueprint, you could either spend Credits to create the item the Blueprint’s linked to or choose to trade-in. Additionally, you could choose to keep it in your inventory and build or trade later.

What to do with a Blueprint?

As discussed, Rocket League allows you to use the Blueprints you acquire to build items. You’ll, of course, have to spend your hard-earned Credits to create a valuable item from an ordinary Blueprint. If you don’t have enough Credits but deem the Blueprint valuable, you could also choose to keep it in your inventory.  Finally, if you don’t deem the Blueprint valuable, you could trade-in or engage in Player-to-Player trading.

How to Trade Blueprints in Rocket League?

If you’re an avid Rocket League player, chances are you have an enormous Blueprints collection. Sadly, most of the Blueprints we acquire after matchups aren’t of great quality, which makes them unsuitable for Player-to-Player trading. Additionally, the current Blueprint system is notoriously expensive, meaning that very few users are encouraged to build items from them.

Fortunately, Rocket League has a pretty capable trade-in program, which, if used correctly, can give you a couple of pretty rare Blueprints. However, before learning more about the trade-in system, let’s see some of the rules.

Trade-in rules

  • You can trade-in 5 Blueprints for one random Blueprint. The resultant Blueprint would be of the next highest rarity of the traded Blueprints
  • All Blueprints must be of the same rarity
  • All Blueprints must be of the same series. The Blueprint you receive would also be from the same series
  • Black market Blueprints cannot be traded-in but are included in the trade-in system
  • Value of Blueprints:
    • Five Rare Blueprints = One Very Rare Blueprint;
    • Five Very Rare Blueprint = One Import Blueprint;
    • Five Import Blueprints = One Exotic Blueprint;
    • Five Exotic Blueprints =  One Black Market Blueprint;
  • The resulting Blueprint can be Certified, Painted, or Special Edition

Trade-in mechanism

Now that you know all about the rules of the trade-in program, let’s see how to use the trade-in system. To access the trade-in menu, you’ll have to go ‘Garage,’ hit ‘Manage Inventory,’ and select the Blueprints you want to trade-in.

How to engage in Player-to-Player trading?

If you are feeling lucky, you could also engage in Player-to-Player trading and omit the randomness involved in the trade-in program. However, before engaging in P2P trading, you’ll have to keep a few things in mind.

First and foremost, you must ensure the user you’re trading with is on the same platform as you. Cross-platform trading hasn’t been enabled in Rocket League. Second, make sure the user you’re trading with is trusted and take all the general precautions. Since Blueprint trading is similar to the general trading rules in Rocket League, you shouldn’t have a very hard time completing a trade. Just create a private party, check the inventory, and consent to the transaction — done!

Can you trade an “Unrevealed” Blueprint?

As we’ve discussed already, “Unrevealed” items only stem from unopened Crates in your inventory. Since Blueprint trading is fair game in Rocket League, being curious about “Unrevealed” Blueprints isn’t unexpected. Sadly, it’s not possible to trade an “Unrevealed” Blueprint in the game. However, there’s a pretty simple workaround you could opt for.

Rocket League lets you convert your “Unrevealed” Blueprints to “Revealed” ones with a single click, and that, too, completely free of charge. So, if you’re looking for a way out and want to offload an “Unrevealed” Blueprint, be sure to covert it to Revealed and start trading.

How to earn Credits in Rocket League?

Rocket League is a free-to-play the game, but that doesn’t make it any more generous than other titles out there. To progress and create fun stuff, you need Credits, and Credits usually stem from real money.

However, if you’re not willing to spend your hard-earned cash on virtual credits, you could choose to engage in P2P trading to get Credits in exchange for valuable items. Blueprints, albeit expensive, remain a good source for earning credits. Make sure to trade-in when you have plenty of Blueprints in exchange for a rarer Blueprint.

How much do Blueprints cost?

Even almost a year after launch, Rocket League Blueprints remain pretty expensive. While the rare Blueprints can set you back around 100 Credits, the Black Market items can even cross the 2000-Credit mark. Paint jobs can cost anywhere between 50 Credits and 400 Credits. These charges are added to the overall cost of the Blueprints.

  • Rare: 50-100 Credits
  • Very Rare: 100-200 Credits
  • Import: 300-500 Credits
  • Exotic: 700-800 Credits
  • Black Market: 2000 Credits+
