Samsung has found itself on the wrong footing more than once when it comes to batteries. Needless to say, it was the Galaxy Note 7 battery explosion which turned Samsung’s positive image into a negative one. Learning a huge lesson from this fiasco, the Korean manufacturer has done all it can to ensure that history doesn’t repeat itself. From 8-point battery safety check for Galaxy S8 to pumping millions of dollars into it, Samsung has left no stone unturned. Not only this, it has gone a step forward and taken care of S8 battery performance.
According to a report from Android Police, Samsung has powered Galaxy S8 and S8+ with a new generation battery which will degrade less quickly than the outgoing Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. Explaining further and citing sources from Samsung, the report states that after one year of usage, ‘Galaxy S8 and S8+ will lose substantially less of their effective capacity over the same amount of time’ as compared to Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.

Converting the statement to numbers, it can be said that while the ‘Galaxy S7 only maintained about 80% of its total effective battery capacity’ post one year of charges and discharges, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ battery capacity will tick at 95% over that same period with the same usage.
Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ pack in 3000mAH and 35000mAH battery respectively, which are pretty decent enough to compliment the flagship features, although there’s nothing extra to be mentioned about it. Well, that was uptil now. With Samsung revealing the advanced technology (without delving deeper in the How’s) used in S8 and S8+ battery which gives it more life compared to its predecessors, even this spec of the flagship devices now deserves more attention.

This is real amazing progress. I don’t think I can understand the science behind how they did this but I really appreciate their work and the consequence. This is what the future should head towards.
