Looks like a lot of users love lighter versions of heavy applications, as shown by the sheer number of downloads that the Facebook Lite app has received. As of recently, this Lite version of Facebook has crossed more than 100 million downloads on the Play Store.

Now that’s a lot of downloads for an app that is meant for low-end phones with not so good internet connectivity. Earlier this year it was reported that over 200 million users are using the app, and that was in February. Surely, that number seems to have grown a lot by now. That’s a faster growth than the standard Facebook app.

The Facebook Lite app was released in 2015 and includes most of the features found in the regular version. It is mainly aimed at developing countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Zimbabwe and many more.

Google is also doing something similar with most of their apps. The search giant has recently released a whole suite of Lite apps such as Maps Go, Google Go, Files Go, Gmail Go, etc. They have even launched a lighter version of Android Oreo called the Go edition.
