Korean newspaper outlet Chosun is reporting that Samsung will take the wraps off of Galaxy S6 on March 2, at MWC, where it had unveiled Galaxy S2 and S5 earlier. If you are a tech enthusiast, you better plan out these two days — March 1 and 2 — as HTC too, is very eager to announce the HTC One M9 at MWC, on March 1. In fact, plan out till March 5, because Sony is also in line to unveil it’s vision of a smartphone, Xperia Z4, at MWC.
On the other hand, it’s also reported that LG is playing it late, and is looking to do a G3. The other Korean giant is looking forward to perfecting its G4 and has decided that it has till May for that, because that’s when it released G3 last year, which really improved big time on flagships of HTC One M8 and Samsung Galaxy S5 that were released way earlier in March-April, and that’s what made LG G4 a hit, too. What difference One month can make, if you are LG, that is!
There are few more juicy tittle-tattles about the Galaxy S6, though. Samsung is believed to have multiple prototypes in hand, and is reportedly hammering away at the choice between all-metallic body and glass back with metallic chassis. If you are a regular reader of this blog, you already know that it’s the second option that Samsung would end picking up. Remember Galaxy S6 Edge? It’s said Samsung also has prototypes of S6 Edge, and is currently not fully decided on whether to go with one side curved (like Note Edge) or both (more here).
We’ve already had solid reports on Samsung Galaxy S6 releasing in March this year, without the Snapdragon 810 chip that was dropped after overheating issues found in the testing.
We also know that Samsung Galaxy S6 wouldn’t be water-resistant like the Galaxy S5 was, and that it will sport a 3GB RAM — want 4GB RAM? look at Galaxy S6 Edge specs — and either of 5.2-inch or 5.5-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display. We also expect 16MP camera loaded on Galaxy S6’s back, and a larger home button to make way for touch-based fingerprint sensor, but that’s that as far as Galaxy S6 internals go — we will know more on March 2, at MWC.
Software-wise, there’s more. Samsung is looking to burn TouchWiz’s fat and come up with features that really matter, looking at Nexus 6 for inspiration, maybe because it’s in awe of Google’s latest. And we could also witness Samsung launch assault on Apple watch and its crown, with a premium smartwatch of Samsung’s own that will have a crown-shaped power button, a rotating bezel for added functions and wireless charging.
Then there’s Galaxy S6 Edge that could also make it to MWC, which is said to have both sides curved and thus double edges, unlike Note Edge, the poor guy had only one Edge. Galaxy S6 Edge will take the functionality of Edge to another level with numerous improvements already in plans by Samsung.
So, folks, gear up for the big event, MWC. Note down March 1 and 2, if nothing else, as two biggest launches of the year will take place.
