Sprint Galaxy S8, S8+ and Note 8 receiving May security patch

Android 8.0 Oreo came out all the way in August last year but it has taken Samsung quite the time to bring it to the flagship devices from last year. However, devices like the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ and the Galaxy Note 8 that were tied to network carriers such as Sprint received the update much later. It seems that the U.S. network carrier is finally catching up to others by releasing the May security update for the top Samsung devices.

Carrying the build number CRE2 for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ along with CRE1 for the Galaxy Note 8, the software update is now rolling out over the air (OTA) and should land on Sprint-supported devices soon enough. This comes, of course, after the Android Oreo update that was already released a few weeks ago.

Yes, rather than wait, you can grab the Oreo firmware for your device via the links below, but make sure the model number and software version corresponds.

For those who are not familiar with the manual installation of Samsung firmware, we have a detailed guide on each of the firmware pages above to help you through the entire process. In case you face any issues after updating to Oreo, check out our Galaxy S8 Oreo problems and solutions page. Common problems known with S8 Oreo update are unread badge not available,  slow chargingproximity sensor not workingscreen dimmingcamera app crashing, etc. all of which have been covered by us with appropriate solutions.

  1. I was with Sprint for 12 years and paid $265 a month for 5 phones. I changed job locations and I couldn’t talk on my Sprint phone because while there were 4 towers surrounding me. I was hitting all 4 towers in a 30 second time span. It was like the Sprint towers were fighting each other for my phone. That’s OK, I guess, if I’m in a car but not so cool when my phone is laying on a counter and the signal looked like a wind gauge. Anyway, after 5 days of .22 Kbp’s download speeds I got the Hell out. You may laugh but Metro PCS is giving me 5 lines for $125 and everyone in my family report great speeds! 79 MBP’s per second. I’ve now got a signal and I felt real good about walking away from Sprint and their wonderful network or lack there of. BTW, I got my Samsung security update last week.
