You can now call ChatGPT or have a WhatsApp conversation with it for free.
Use the number 1-800-242-8478 or 1800-CHATGPT if you’re in the US on any phone, including dumb phones and landlines.
For those outside the US, search for ChatGPT using the same number and start a conversation with it on WhatsApp.
Currently, calling ChatGPT is limited to the US and only for 15 minutes. ChatGPT on WhatsApp is available everywhere.

OpenAI now lets users call ChatGPT or text it via WhatsApp on the toll-free number 1-800-242-8478. That’s 1-800-CHATGPT. Here’s how to call or WhatsApp ChatGPT today.

How to call ChatGPT for free

Users in the US can call ChatGPT and have a 15-minute conversation with the AI.

Open your phone’s dialer and enter the number 1-800-242-8478.

ChatGPT’s Voice mode will kick in and you’ll hear an initial disclaimer: “Hello again. It’s ChatGPT, an AI assistant. Our conversation may be reviewed for safety. How can I help you.”

Go ahead and have your 15 minutes of AI conversation with ChatGPT.

Don’t forget to save ChatGPT in your contacts for a quick call later.

Not only does it work on your smartphones, but also dumbphones and even a landline. To speak for more than 15 minutes, you’ll need to get the ChatGPT app and a ChatGPT subscription.

How to text ChatGPT for free (on WhatsApp)

If you’re not in the US, fret not. You can can text ChatGPT on WhatsApp and get a conversation going for free. Here’s how to go about it:

Method 1: Add ChatGPT to contact

Open WhatsApp, tap on the New Chat icon and select New contact.

Enter the name, country code (+1) and phone number (18002428478) and tap Save.

Now start chatting with ChatGPT like your virtual AI friend.

Method 2: Use a QR code

Open WhatsApp, tap on the New Chat icon and tap on the QR icon next to ‘New contact’.

Then use your phone’s camera to scan the code below.

Once scanned, you’ll see the ChatGPT WhatsApp account. Tap on Continue to chat.

Simply start your conversation as usual. You can add ChatGPT to your WhatsApp contacts by tapping on the three-dot icon and selecting Add to contacts > Create new contact.

Note that ChatGPT will only be able to answer based on its knowledge cutoff in January 2022. For anything more recent, you’ll need to search the web.

With this move, OpenAI has brought the AI wars to Meta’s turf which has its own Meta AI in the form of a blue ring right there on the platform. But that’s not all. OpenAI is also looking to bring additional features to WhatsApp by linking your ChatGPT account. This will let you add images and documents for ChatGPT to analyze.
