One UI 2: Designed for everyday simplicity | Samsung

One UI 2.1

Samsung released the Galaxy S20 devices with its latest Android 10 build — One UI 2.1, featuring Single Take mode, Night mode hyper-lapse, Pro mode for video, and more. From what it seems, the update won’t be made available to the Galaxy Note 9 or Galaxy S9 devices, as is evident from recent notification sent through the Samsung Members app in South Korea.

As per the notification, Samsung isn’t working on One UI 2.1 for the 2018 flagships.

Samsung released the One UI 2.1 update for the Galaxy Note 10 and S10 sets as the first devices. It also released the same update to Galaxy Tab S6 too, making it part of the tablet’s Android 10 update.

Latest news

May 10, 2020: About 2 weeks after the update was first spotted for the Galaxy A20 family, Samsung has released Android 10-based One UI 2 for the budget-friendly Galaxy A20s. May 06: The Wi-Fi-only variant of the Tab S6 in the US has also started receiving Android 10, arriving as build BTD1 with March 2020 security patch. You’ve probably noticed the obvious omission of devices like Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, Galaxy S8 Active and Galaxy Note 8. Well, these devices are past their Android OS support window of two years. They’ve been updated to newer versions of Android on two occasions and unlike Google and OnePlus, Samsung devices only receive two major OS upgrades.

So, if your Samsung device came pre-installed with Android Nougat or older, you don’t stand a chance of receiving Android 10. In other words, if your Galaxy device has lived long enough to receive two major OS upgrades, don’t expect a third version.

Samsung Galaxy S10 update

What is Samsung’s beta program

  • Samsung tests the update under a beta program before releasing it to the public
  • Galaxy S10 was the first devices under the Android 10 beta program

Android 10 officially arrived on May 7 at the Google I/O 2019, becoming the first in the software’s history to support more than 20 devices in the beta program. Even so, none of the non-Google devices included in the program has a Samsung name on it, which is a disappointment from the world’s leading smartphone vendor.

Samsung eventually rolled out the beta around November 2019 for the Galaxy S10 family, beating the record they set with Android Pie, last year. The beta updates came thick and fast. And soon enough, the stable build was released for the current S-series flagship. Galaxy Note 10, Note 9, and S9 were also blessed with beta builds before the stable build was released.

  1. On the “Samsung Android 10 Device List” you guys wrote “Expected release date November/December 2020” but I think you meant 2019 because December 2020 would be next year. 😀

  2. Then there is OnePlus with Android 9 on the OP3. That came out in 2016 with android 6.0…

Guess we know who’s phones to buy for support.

  3. Well the unlocked version of A20 has not even received it yet and it is almost June now.

  4. No. Samsung is promising customers lias. No update for Samsung a9 in april as promised. No update in June. Next time buy a decent device, but no Samsung anymore. Angry from belgium

  5. Their whole update system is all screwed up.

  6. a20 is better than the a10 but the a10 got android 10 sooner. That makes no sense at all. Less specs on a10 to a20 and a20 has to wait longer. What a load of crock.

  7. At this rate, I will get the covid and die before I get android 10. Never know that might be for the better than waiting for Samsung to actually do something right.

  8. A10e Canada come on Samsung android 10 it’s a click of a button please send the patch to my device

  9. This is BS crap here. I have the factory unlocked A20, and still never received android 10. The schedule of releases on the R2 community used to say July for A20, but now it says released, and still I have never received it. Guess, this means I will never get it. Stupid Samsung. BS company.

    1. Which country are you from? Even though Samsung isn’t great at updates, we have to say at least they care about updating even the likes of A20. I think you will get Android 10 on your A20 sooner or later. How they roll out updates where isn’t consistent but eventually, you will get it, I believe.
