There is no denying that the Google Pixel 3a has been one of Google’s worst kept secrets for a while now. The speculations and rumors finally reached their peak today when Google announced the official launch date (May 7) of the Pixel 3a. Not that we are complaining. With the launch hovering so close, it’s actually a good thing that we are being made aware of what the Pixel 3a has to offer.
Best Buy surprisingly put the Google Pixel 3a XL up for display in one of their Ohio stores, all but confirming the device is almost here. The leaked box confirmed that the device will come with a 6-inch screen and a base storage of 64GB and Just Black will be one of the color variants, alongside White and Purple finishes.
According to YouTuber This is Tech Today (via Droid-Life), the Pixel 3a will be priced at $399 while the Pixel 3a XL will start at $479. Google has also announced the launch dates with the Pixel 3a hitting the markets on May 7 and May 8 in the United States and India respectively. While looks have never been the USP for the Google Pixel range, it will be interesting to see how Google market’s the Pixel’s Purple color variant. We are even looking at power buttons that carry a dash of contrasting color in the white range of this phone.
The Pixel 3a’s major high point is undoubtedly the 12.2 MP dual camera. So what can we expect from the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL? You have the usual, with motion autofocus and portrait mode that is to be expected. Then you have Night Sight, the same amazing feature that is exclusively available in the Pixel 3a’s predecessors. In fact, it seems like Google has taken the best of the Pixel 3 and empowered the Pixel 3a with it. So it will not be unfair to expect exceptional performance from the camera.
What else can you expect for $399?
If the speculations are true, Google has toughened up the Pixel 3a. It’s going to be available with 4GB RAM and 6GB RAM. There is also more than enough internal storage with the 64GB and 128GB variants. The phone is geared to perform with a Snapdragon 670 processor and 3000mAh battery life. The Pixel 3a is not just going to be about great pictures, it’s also meant to be functional.
Of course, the same Pixel 3 software experience is expected on the Pixel 3a, meaning you still get things like Call Screen, 3 years of security and OS upgrades, and more.
Unlike before, the Pixel 3a is said to be leaving the exclusivity chains of Verizon Wireless and this time, not just T-Mobile, but also Sprint will be selling the duo. According to Android Police, Sprint will also start selling the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL pretty soon.
Is the Google Pixel 3a another lower-cost flagship device like the iPhone XR? Or will it stand its ground in the face of competition and provide a unique experience that will impress us enough to want it?
All speculation will be put to rest once Google officially introduces Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL on May 7, 2019.
