OnePlus became the third major OEM and second non-Google smartphone vendor to release a stable build of Android 9 Pie update when it started dishing out the OTA to OnePlus 6 users a couple of days ago.

This followed a public beta testing phase that lasted less than three weeks, although the company had been trialing the developer preview version since the phone became available back in May 2018.

With the OS gradually spreading to markets across the globe, those using the older handsets from the company are already asking a common question: when will OxygenOS 9.0 update arrive on my OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T, OnePlus 3 or OnePlus 3T?

Although not an official communication from OnePlus, this post tries to answer this question in the best way possible, in light of the OnePlus 6’s pie rollout, but of course, this is just us making educated guesses, so don’t hold us to ransom just in case anything doesn’t go as predicted.

OnePlus 5 and 5T Android 9 update

It’s obvious now that OnePlus 6 is out of the way, the company’s next focus is now on rolling out Android 9 Pie to the OnePlus 5 and 5T. These two are expected to get Open Beta updates before the stable version rolls out.

The facts that the duo supports Project Treble, OnePlus already has a stable build of Android 9 Pie, and that OxygenOS is near stock could mean OnePlus may need only a few weeks to get the stable build ready for rolling out to OnePlus 5 and 5T.

In short, once the beta version goes live, which could happen in the next one or two weeks, the stable build should follow about four or so weeks later. This means that we are looking at a possible release in November 2018.

OnePlus 3 and 3T Android 9 update

OnePlus took many by surprise when it announced that OnePlus 3 and 3T will receive Android 9 Pie update. However, the company also mentioned that it won’t be in such a hurry to roll out the update for obvious reasons, but considering it doesn’t have such a huge number of devices and that, as noted, OxygenOS doesn’t need so many customizations, we could see the OS arrive in Q1 2019.

What, however, could delay the arrival of Android 9 Pie update to OnePlus 3 and 3T are the expected extensive tests OnePlus will be running to ensure the OS, which will be the third major OS upgrade for the duo, doesn’t bring more harm than good. For this reason, we can expect the stable Pie update to arrive deep into Q1 2019, but a beta program should be opened a little earlier, probably soon after the stable version is released for OnePlus 5 and 5T users.

Once again, this isn’t coming from OnePlus but since our readers have been asking when their OnePlus devices will get an update to Android 9 Pie, we saw it wise to shed some light on the matter. Hopefully, this piece has some answers for you.
