QUICK ANSWER
The Shrike Stone is in a chest off the Sunken Village route in the Glutted Mire — from the Sunken Village beacon, drop into the open swamp and follow the side path across the bridge to the chest, with no boss required.

The Shrike Stone is one of the strongest ability items available in the early zones, and you can collect it without fighting a boss or completing a hidden trial. Take the short detour from the main Sunken Village path and follow the poisoned swamp route to its chest. This Ability Tarstone spends your Resolve on a leaping ground slam.

Where the Shrike Stone chest sits

The Shrike Stone waits in a chest inside the Glutted Mire, on a side branch of the Sunken Village route rather than in the central combat arena most players search first. Use the Sunken Village beacon as your starting point: cleanse it, descend into the open swamp, cross the bridge, and follow the side path to the chest.

Key The chest sits along the route and not behind a boss, so you can claim it in the early-to-mid game as soon as you reach the beacon. Only the enemies patrolling the road stand between you and the pickup.

What the Shrike Stone does in combat

Detail Value
Tarstone type Ability
Activation cost 70 Resolve
Main effect Leap high, plunge weapon into the ground ahead
Nearest beacon Sunken Village
Reward chest Off-path swamp clearing, Glutted Mire

The Shrike Stone is an Ability Tarstone, so it gives you an active skill to trigger during combat instead of a passive buff. Spend your Resolve to leap high and drive your weapon into the ground ahead, hitting everything in front of you. Use the burst-damage and pressure tool to carve through health and hammer enemy stance, quickly opening a Break window against tougher foes.

Pick it up early to gain an attack that can swing a fight on demand, while most other early options provide passive stat boosts.

Grab the Revered Gland on the way

Collect the Revered Gland while descending from the Sunken Village beacon. It rests among glowing green plant nodes just off the path, and picking it up increases the maximum number of heals you can carry between beacon rests. If your limit was three, it rises to four. The gland takes only a small detour, and the route passes right beside it.

Using and upgrading the Shrike Stone

Once collected, the Shrike Stone occupies a weapon slot. It works with melee weapons rather than sidearms; check your inventory to see the complete set of compatible weapons. Every activation consumes Resolve, the ability resource you build while fighting, and leveling the stone reduces that cost.

Tarstones grow in two ways. They gain XP from kills made while they are slotted, carrying them through the first couple of levels automatically. Further upgrades require the Tarforge: take the Etching Needles found along this same Glutted Mire stretch back to the forge to unlock the full Tarstone upgrade path. As the Shrike Stone levels, its landing gains a shockwave, its Resolve cost drops from 70 to 50, and a later rank adds Break damage on impact. The top-end Break value is listed as high as 100 and as low as 25, so use the in-game tooltip for the value on your upgraded stone.

QUICK WIN

Slot the Shrike Stone into your main melee weapon before you fight. It earns upgrade XP only while equipped, so leaving it in storage prevents progress toward the Resolve discount and landing shockwave.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Shrike Stone drop from a boss?

No — the Shrike Stone comes directly from a chest and is not tied to any enemy. Skip the main Sunken Village arena and search the off-path swamp clearing instead, or you will miss the chest.

Do you have to kill the worm by the chest?

Kill the giant worm guarding the final approach. Ranged hits and well-timed melee strikes bring it down and clear the narrow ground immediately before the chest; sprinting past leaves you exposed to its patrol.

What is Resolve, and why does the Shrike Stone need it?

Resolve is the game’s ability resource, separate from stamina and health, and it builds as you fight. The Shrike Stone consumes Resolve to power its leap-and-slam attack, so you can activate it after banking enough of the resource.
