After you beat Hexapod, a new Beacon spawns beside the boss-room drop-in point next to the large bone stack — activate it and step inside to leave the Corrupted Gate and claim your Ovum.
Hexapod is the final boss of the Withered Shoals Corrupted Gate, fought down in Hexapod’s Burrow, and clearing it is supposed to hand you a fat packet of Ovum. The catch is that the Gate doesn’t spit you out on its own the way you might expect, and the fog never lifts, so it’s very easy to kill the boss and then wander off without ever cleansing the Beacon that holds your reward. Here’s exactly where it is and how to get out clean.
Where the Hexapod Core spawns

After Hexapod goes down, you’re simply left standing in the arena. Every other Corrupted Gate normally teleports you out the moment the boss dies, but this one doesn’t — there’s no automatic eject, and the fog that was there during the fight stays exactly as thick afterward. That combination is why so many players miss it.
Key The Beacon appears right back at the drop-in point, the same spot where you first landed when you entered the encounter. Cleansing that Beacon — not quitting, not running for an exit — is what actually ends the Gate and gives you the Ovum, so the fight isn’t really over until you’ve interacted with it.
How to find the Hexapod Core and collect the Ovum in Mortal Shell 2
Once Hexapod is dead, the whole job is getting back to your landing spot and cleansing the Beacon that spawned there.
STEP 1/5
Drop back into Hexapod’s Burrow

Whether you already left the arena or you’re still standing in it, get back down to the room where you fought the boss.
STEP 2/5
Return to the drop-in point

The Beacon appears right where you land when you enter the fight, so head straight for that spot rather than searching the whole room.
STEP 3/5
Find the large bone stack

The fog never clears after the kill, so use the big bone pile as your marker — the Beacon sits directly behind it.
STEP 4/5
Activate the Beacon and step inside

Cleanse the Hexapod’s Burrow Beacon, then walk into it exactly like any other cleared Gate.
STEP 5/5
Collect the Ovum and warp out

The 30 Ovum are waiting the instant you enter, and the Gate then teleports you straight back to the hub.

Leaving the fight without losing Gloom
If you’re still mid-fight — locked in your pause menu, realizing too late that Hexapod hits harder than you were ready for — you can bail out without dropping any of the Gloom you’re carrying. As long as you still hold your Ovum, quit to the main menu and load back in.
Doing that returns you to your previous save at the last checkpoint with your Gloom fully intact. In one run that meant walking away with the same 29K Gloom the player had going in, so nothing banked before the fight is at risk.
When the quit-out only buys you an escape

Use that menu trick when you walked in unprepared and just need to get out — it’s an escape hatch for a fight you don’t want to finish yet, nothing more. It’s important not to confuse it with the post-boss Beacon, because there’s a persistent myth that quitting to the menu is how you “complete” Hexapod. It isn’t.
Quitting only rewinds you to safety. It never hands you the reward, and it doesn’t count the Gate as cleared. To actually walk away with the Ovum you still have to beat Hexapod for real and then cleanse the Beacon that spawns — there’s no shortcut that skips the kill.
If the Beacon won’t show in the fog
Nine times out of ten a “missing” Beacon is just the fog hiding it, so sweep the drop-in point and the bone stack again before assuming it never spawned. If it genuinely didn’t appear, quit to the main menu and reload — the game auto-saves the moment Hexapod dies, so you’ll come back at the checkpoint with the Beacon in place and every Ovum still safely yours.
Take the Ovum to the Gloom Siphon in Marrow Keep to convert them back into Gloom once you’ve cleansed the Beacon.
What cleansing the Beacon actually gets you
| Thing | What it does |
|---|---|
| Exit the Corrupted Gate | Entering the cleansed Beacon warps you out of Hexapod’s Burrow back to the Withered Shoals area. |
| Ovum reward | Hands you the packet of Ovum you’re owed for clearing the Gate. |
| Beacon progress | Removes the question mark on the fast-travel map so the Withered Shoals Gate reads as complete. |
| Collection cleanup | Counts toward the achievements for collecting every Ovum and cleansing every Beacon. |
The Beacon is doing more than acting as a door out of the arena. Cleansing it is what marks the Withered Shoals Gate as done, clears the lingering question mark on your fast-travel map, and pushes you toward the collection-and-Beacon achievements — miss it and that Gate quietly stays flagged as incomplete. The packet is 30 Ovum on this route, though some early launch-week guide data lists it as 26, so the exact count can vary by build.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you need to beat Hexapod again if you quit to the main menu after the fight?
No. Because the game auto-saves as soon as the boss dies, reloading drops you back with the Beacon already spawned, so you never re-fight Hexapod. Just remember that quitting isn’t the same as finishing the Gate — you still have to return to the arena and cleanse the Beacon to claim the Ovum.
Does quitting to the main menu before beating Hexapod preserve your Gloom?
Yes, as long as you’re still holding your Ovum when you quit. The catch is that you’re loading your last checkpoint, so anything you did since that save — Gloom you picked up, damage you dealt to the boss — gets rolled back along with the risk.
Is the Hexapod Core the same thing as the boss reward?
No, they’re two separate things. Beating Hexapod itself drops the Hexapod Core, an ability Tarstone for the Axatana that spends 60 Resolve for a rapid flurry of strikes. The Beacon is a separate pickup that holds the Ovum — you get the Core from the kill and the Ovum from the Beacon.
