QUICK ANSWER
To get the Black Needle in Mortal Shell 2, go to the Sester’s Gate Beacon from the Outskirts of Mammon, enter Sester’s Bastion, solve the bell-platform route, then defeat the Sester boss at the end to receive the spear.

The Black Needle is one of the eight weapons tucked away in the region of Mammon, and it’s an easy recommend for the mid-game thanks to its reach. Grabbing it isn’t about grinding or shopping — it’s a single, mostly-skippable run out to one beacon, a short puzzle, and one boss fight. Here’s the whole path from Marrow Keep to the spear.

Where the Black Needle is and what unlocks it

Detail Answer
Starting area Outskirts of Mammon (out of Marrow Keep)

Required action Cleanse the Sester’s Gate Beacon to open the dungeon
Puzzle mechanic Shoot bells to raise stone walkways
Boss encounter Twin Sesters, then the Stray Sester

Everything about this weapon lives in the same corner of the map: you cross the Outskirts of Mammon, cleanse the Sester’s Gate Beacon to open its dungeon, and the spear is handed to you for clearing what’s inside. Use the table to orient before the full walkthrough below.

Prep before the Sester’s Bastion run

Key Treat this as a mid-game trip rather than an early-game detour — take it on once you have a shell you actually like fighting in. The route rewards patience over aggression: almost everything between the start and the dungeon can be run straight past, so you’ll spend far more time sprinting than swinging. You can head here directly from the Outskirts of Mammon without any side stops, which keeps the whole thing to a few minutes once you know the way.

QUICK WIN

Bring a ranged sidearm before you drop into the dungeon — the entire route is gated behind shooting bells to raise stone walkways, and you can’t extend a single platform without one.

From Marrow Keep, take the trace road into the Outskirts of Mammon and run straight past every guard — nothing here has to be fought.

STEP 2/13

Cross the first bridge

Head onto the bridge and drop off the side where the path forces it; you take a little fall damage, but an attack on the way down cancels most of it.

Skip the hunter and the questline NPC, cut through the archway, and step into the gate that teleports you to the next section.

Jump the spear stream, drop onto the rooftop for a second one, then take the last stream to the top floor — dodge the spear-throwers, whose hits really sting.

Reach the next beacon

This drops you at the next beacon; from here, run straight up into the castle area.

Enter the Sester’s Gate Beacon

Cleanse the beacon to open its dungeon, Sester’s Bastion, then ride the lift down — an enemy ambushes from behind right after the first drop, so turn and clear it.

Go up the big stone bridge to a final spear stream and jump it to reach the arena.

STEP 12/13

Beat the Twin Sesters

The arena locks for a two-on-one against the Twin Sesters — one on the rapier, one on the bow.

STEP 13/13

Beat the Stray Sester for the spear

A tougher lone Sester follows the pair; beat her to get the black needle.

Shooting the bells to build the walkways

The dungeon’s only real snag is the bells, which raise stone paths across gaps that otherwise look like dead ends. Right after the lift and the first drop, you’ll see two platforms that aren’t connected to yours yet, along with two bells — one just to your left and one higher up on the right. Ring both with your sidearm and a stone walkway bridges the first gap.

The trickier set is in the larger bridge room further in. Clear the enemy camps there first, because it’s a rough spot to fumble a puzzle, then hunt down three more bells tucked between the stone structures: one at the very back, one roughly mid-room, and — the one people miss — a third tucked beneath the bridge near the far end. All three are needed to extend the main bridge. Once it’s up, cross it, deal with the enemy waiting at the far side, and take the platform up toward the arena.

Beating the Twin Sesters and Stray Sester

The arena opens with the Twin Sesters, a paired fight where one comes at you with a rapier up close while the other pressures you from range with a bow. They aren’t the hard part — split your attention, close on the bow user when you can, and keep rolling through the melee attacks. It’s the Stray Sester that follows who does the real damage, a beefed-up version of everything you’ve fought on the way in. (Her English name shifts a little between sources, but it’s the same lone boss at the end of the dungeon.)

The tell to respect on both the regular Sesters and this boss: when they hold the spear low, a nasty counterattack is coming, so don’t crowd them in that stance. Stay mobile — bob and weave in and out of range, punish the recovery, and lean on spacing or a ranged poke rather than standing in her face. Once she goes down, the Black Needle is awarded automatically for finishing the encounter.

What the Black Needle spear does well

The Black Needle is a fast, unusually long-reach spear built around its Needle Storm ability — a rapid flurry of thrusts. It rates near the top for speed and range, which makes it ideal if you like poking safely from mid-distance and stacking quick pressure without committing to big, slow swings. It’s a safety-first pick: reach out, jab, and step back out of trouble.

Mistakes that stall the Black Needle run

Two things trip most people up. First, the dungeon entrance stays shut until you actually cleanse the beacon — if you can’t find a way in, that’s why, so don’t waste time hunting for another door. Second, if the big bridge won’t extend and the room reads like a bugged dead end, it isn’t broken — you’ve missed a bell (almost always the one under the bridge), so sweep the room again before assuming anything’s wrong.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Black Needle a guaranteed reward or a random drop?

It’s a fixed, guaranteed reward. Clearing the final Sester at the end of the dungeon always hands over the spear — there’s no drop-rate roll involved, so one clean run is all it takes.

Do you need to buy the Black Needle map from a merchant first?

No. Merrick in Marrow Keep sells maps for some weapon locations, but the Black Needle isn’t one you purchase — it’s simply given to you for finishing the Sester’s Gate Beacon dungeon, so keep that coin for upgrades instead.

Can you skip the enemies on the way to the beacon?

Mostly, yes. Nearly every guard and patrol along the route can be run straight past; only the locked castle-room fight and the final Sester encounter are mandatory.
