LG Optimus G coming to Europe this month with Android 4.1.2 out of the box

With the Optimus G, LG finally made a smartphone that was worthy of going head-to-head with flagship devices of other manufacturers, but for the first couple of months only those in the US and Korea were able to get their hands on one. However, the device has been making its way to other regions since the beginning of this year, and it has now been launched officially in Europe.

While essentially the same device as before, the European Optimus G comes with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean out of the box. Those who have been patiently waiting for the device to launch all this time won’t necessarily find that enough to make up for the long wait, but they’ll hopefully find joy in the fact that Optimus G owners in the US are still stuck on Android 4.0.

The Android 4.1.2 update also brings along a couple of new features. One of those is Safety Care, which sends location information to selected contacts via SMS such as when emergency services is dialed or when the phone goes unused for a certain length of time. There’s also Privacy Keeper, which hides caller information for incoming calls unless the user brings it up by swiping the icon on the screen.

Sweden will be the first country to get the Optimus G this month, followed by other markets including France, Germany and Italy. There are no exact release dates available, but with the Optimus G Pro already in the pipeline, LG would do well to launch the device as soon as they can.

I have to ask though. With devices like the Optimus G Pro, Sony Xperia Z, HTC One, or the Samsung Galaxy S4 on the horizon, would you be interested in buying the Optimus G?
