There’s no shortage of apps that let you share videos with others without audio. But if you’re chatting with someone on WhatsApp and come to realize that you need to share a video with audio muted, then it can be tedious to find a video editor to mute the sound and then send it on WhatsApp, more so switching back and forth between apps for editing and all.
Fortunately, the latest WhatsApp update (limited to beta version only for now) will let you mute a video before sharing it with ease without having to resort to a gallery app to edit out the video sound. Here is how.
Install latest WhatsApp beta
First up, you have to get the latest WhatsApp beta right now, which is version 220.127.116.11. Earlier beta versions may have the same functionality as well but it’s always recommended to get the latest one. If you already have WhatsApp beta, then skip this section and jump to the next one below, but be sure to update the app from the Play Store to version 18.104.22.168.
There are two ways to get the beta version of any app on Android.
First is the Google Play Beta Program, which can be for WhatsApp here. BTW, the WhatsApp beta program has exceeded the maximum number of testers that can participate at the time of writing. But you can try your luck. It’s possible it works region-wise and is still available for your country. Just click the link given above to register for the beta and then follow the link it gives after the successful registration.
Anyway, the second method is to download the WhatsApp beta app’s installer APK file from APK Mirror (an unofficial but trustworthy website). You will need to transfer the APK file to your phone’s storage if you’re downloading it on your computer.
Before installing the downloaded APK package, uninstall the WhatsApp version that’s currently on your phone. Press and hold the WhatsApp icon and then drag it to Uninstall. Be sure to back up your WhatsApp chats and media to Google Drive first using the backup option under the app’s settings.
When prompted, check Keep app data so that you don’t have to set WhatsApp up again later from scratch. Then click OK.
Once the old WhatsApp is uninstalled, open your phone’s storage from File Manager and tap on the downloaded APK file.
If your phone prevents you from installing the app, tap on Settings.
Then toggle on Allow from this source.
Now go back to the downloaded APK and tap Install.
Now the latest WhatsApp beta is installed on your device. You will be able to access it from the app drawer.
Mute video before sharing
Open the chat where you want to share the video and then tap on attach files (clip icon). Then tap on Gallery and find a video to attach.
Or you could capture the video from WhatsApp itself by tapping on the camera icon.
However you wish to share, once you have the video you should see a volume icon near the top left corner.
Tap on it to mute the video.
You can preview the video by tapping on the play button. There should be no sound. Now you can share your video.
And that’s about it. Muting a video on WhatsApp is a breeze and makes sharing soundless videos a seamless affair. This feature is expected to make its way to WhatsApp stable version in about a month but beta testers and now you too can try it out beforehand.
