The first symbol in Chapter 5, Desolation It Wrought, is at the end of the left-hand trial — take the left door from the four-socket chamber, cross the spiked jumping puzzle in the order Circle, Squid, Circle, Flower, Squid, climb the left ledge partway through, and grab the symbol at the shrine on the far side.
Once you slot the Sphere into the pedestal in the central chamber, four doors swing open and the objective Find the first symbol begins. Each door hides its own trial, and this route runs the left one — a spiked tile puzzle you cross by following a fixed symbol sequence. The trials can be tackled in any order, making this a clean one to start with.
Where the first symbol trial begins

You start in the hub room with the four sockets. Open your journal and it shows a map with four symbols and arrows pointing off to the different trials — one for each open door. The left door is the one this guide follows, and it leads down into a stretch of ruins that ends at the spiked jumping puzzle where the first symbol waits.
There’s no reflector or light-beam step on this route and no bells to ring — that’s a different trial behind a different door. The left path is pure platforming and one tile puzzle, so keep your eyes on the floor symbols rather than looking for switches.
How to find the first symbol in Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
This runs the full left-door route, from the four-socket chamber all the way to the shrine where you pick the symbol up.
STEP 1/7
Take the left door

With the four doors open, head through the left doorway and follow the ruins path downward.
STEP 2/7
Open the bull door

The path ends at a large metal door marked with a bull emblem; opening it splits the group so you continue alone.
STEP 3/7
Step on the pressure plate

Hitting the plate locks you into the route, and from here you just follow the path across the broken columns.
STEP 4/7
Double back for the chest

Once you’re across, backtrack a little into a side alcove and open the chest before the main puzzle.
STEP 5/7
Reach the spiked jumping puzzle

The path opens into a room of raised stone tiles, each stamped with a different floor symbol.
STEP 6/7
Climb the left wall

About halfway across, break off to the left ledge and shimmy along it — the only way past the gap in the tiles.
STEP 7/7
Grab the first symbol

Drop back onto the tiles and cross to the shrine on the far side to collect the first symbol.

Safe tile order for the spiked crossing
| Jump order | Symbol |
|---|---|
| 1 | Circle |
| 2 | Squid |
| 3 | Circle |
| 4 | Flower |
| 5 | Squid |
Open your book at the puzzle and it lays out the same safe symbols in order. After the fifth tile the pattern simply repeats — Circle, Squid, Circle, Flower, Squid and back around — so once you’ve memorised the five you can keep looping it all the way across.
There is no straight tile route to the far side — about halfway across, jump off to the left wall and climb, because the shimmy along that ledge is the only way past the gap.
The souvenir on the left ledge
There’s an optional collectible tucked into this route, and it’s easy to walk past. When you break off to the left wall near the end of the puzzle and climb up, look on the ground along the top of that ledge before you shimmy on — a small souvenir is sitting there waiting to be grabbed.
The other three symbol trials

Key This is only the first of four symbols. The other three doors off the hub room each hide their own trial, and the main gate mechanism won’t open until you’ve found every symbol and matched them on the pedestals back in the central chamber. Clear this left route first, then work through the remaining doors one at a time to complete the set.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have to do the left jumping-puzzle trial first?
No. The trials can be done in any order, so you’re free to start with whichever door you like — this left route is just a straightforward one to open with, and none of the others are locked behind it.
Is landing on the wrong tile in the jumping puzzle instantly fatal?
Yes — the tiles that aren’t part of the safe sequence are spiked, and stepping onto the wrong symbol triggers them and kills you. That’s exactly why the Circle, Squid, Circle, Flower, Squid order matters; stick to it and you’ll never touch a trapped tile.
