Snapchat is constantly adding cool features to keep its users entertained. From starring in your own short action sequence to meditating with your friends using Minis, there is something for everyone on this unique and enduring Social Media platform. Snapscore is one such feature that has stood the test of time. In this article, we will cover what Snapscore is and how points increase your score, and how do you get Snapchat points.

What is Snapscore on Snapchat?

We all know that Snapchat lets you send disappearing messages and snaps. But did you know that Snapchat also keeps a count of all your activity on the app? Snapscore is basically a number that indicates how active you are on Snapchat. The score starts counting from the moment you download the app and start sending out snaps.

Your Snapscore is unique to you and is constantly updating to reflect your activity. The score is attached to your account, so even if you uninstall the app, you will not lose your Snapscore. Your Snapscore is generated depending on a couple of factors that Snapchat claims to be a “Super secret recipe“.

How to check your Snapscore

Your Snapscore is attached to your username. You can view it on your profile page on the app. Your Snapscore keeps changing over time.

To check your Snapscore, launch the Snapchat app and tap on the Bitmoji avatar in the top left corner. This is your profile page.

Your Snapscore is located beside your username.

What does your Snapscore depend on?

Snapchat does not disclose its algorithm for calculating your Snapscore (for some weird reason). However, users have come up with an approximation of what factors could contribute to your Snapscore. Unfortunately, there is no way to verify the accuracy of the information.

The table below indicates the functions that can increase your Snapscore and how much they contribute.

Action Points
Send a snap to one friend +1
Send a Snap to multiple (Eg: 5) users +1 +5
Open a Snap +1
Post a Snap to your Story +1
Send a Snap after a while (inactivity) +6

The above table is based on user gathered data. Some users believe that Snapchat keeps changing its Snapscore algorithm to keep users off the scent. There are also other factors that come in to play when calculating your Snapscore. Adding new friends is supposed to add points to your Snapscore, but it is not certain how much. Similarly, some also claim that Snapstreaks add more points compared to regular snaps.

Unfortunately, sending chat messages does not get you any points on Snapchat. You also do not receive points for viewing other user’s stories.

How to get more points on Snapchat?

Now that you know what the contributors to your Snapscore are, you can decide the best plan of action for increasing your score. While there are third-party apps that claim that they can increase your Snapscore, it is best to stay away from those, since Snapchat is likely to ban your account for interfering with its algorithm.

The best way to increase your Snapscore is to do it organically.

1. Post Snapchat Stories daily

A Snapchat story gives you one point per snap that you post. You do not get points based on how many users view your Stories. Keeping that in mind, you should post multiple Snaps to your story every day.

To post a snap to your story, click the snap and then select ‘My Story’ while posting. This will post the snap to your Snapchat Story.

2. Send Snaps to friends

It seems that you get points for each person that you send a snap too. Earlier, you only received one point if you sent the same snap to ten people. However, it now seems like you get points for each person that you send the snap to.

Additionally, you get one point for simply sending a snap. So if you send the same snap to ten people you should get eleven points added to your Snapscore. So make sure you keep sending your friends snaps daily!

3. Open Snaps

Since you receive a point for each Snap that you open, you should make sure you open snaps soon before they expire. Snaps expire after 24 hours and you will not receive a point for them.

How often does your Snapscore update?

While there are mixed answers about this, we have noticed that the Snapscore takes just a few seconds to a few minutes to update. This usually depends on your internet speed. Some users claim that it is linked to your location services being turned on or not. However, we did not find this to be the case.

How to view someone’s Snapscore

You can only view the Snapscore of users that you have added on Snapchat. To view a friend’s Snapscore, launch the Snapchat app, and tap on the Bitmoji avatar in the top left corner. Now select ‘My Friends’.

Tap on their Bitmoji avatar of the person to view their profile. The Snapscore is located beside their username.

Who can view your Snapscore?

Your Snapscore can be viewed by anyone on your Friends list. Your account is visible to everyone you add, except if they have been blocked by you. Users who have not been added by you cannot see your Snapscore. They can only view your Snapchat username.

Can you hide your Snapscore?

No, there is currently no way to hide your Snapscore on Snapchat. The only way to stop someone from viewing your Snapscore is to block that person. However, in that case, they will no longer be able to find your profile at all.
