Only the sharpest display shall prevail! At least, that’s what seems to be the agenda nowadays, as manufacturers try to cram as much pixels in a display as possible. LG recently showcased their 5″ Full HD 1080p display with a monstrous 440 PPI pixel density, but that record has been broken by JDI, who have created a display having a resolution of 1280×800 with a pixel density of 651 PPI.

Considering other high PPI displays on phones like the HTC Rezound and Xperia S (342 PPI), iPhone 4S (326 PPI), Galaxy Nexus (316 PPI), Galaxy S3 (306 PPI), 651 PPI sure is quite a high number. The display is only 2.3-inches in size however, but at 651 PPI density, what’s certain is that one will probably need to use a microscope to be able to notice any pixels or jagged edges. Also, JDI says that the display “enables realistic and high-quality images that are comparable to film-based photographs”.

It’s still unclear what sort of devices JDI intends to put the 651 PPI display on, as they are certainly not suited for the smartphones of today where larger than 4-inch screens are almost a norm nowadays. But still, it does impress you, which was most certainly the point of the display.
