Essential Phone Oreo to support Treble, while EIS and double tap to wake features are coming soon too

Essential-Phone software update

The Essential Phone will be getting the Android 8.0 Oreo update very soon and has already released the beta version of the software. Now, during a Reddit AMA, the company gave out some information about all the changes and improvements you can expect in the update.

If you own an Essential Phone, you will be delighted to learn that the Oreo update will solve many issues. For starters, the update will enable Double tap to wake or sleep, which a lot of users have been asking for.

The Oreo update will include Electronic video stabilization(EIS) to take care of the choppy videos that the phone produces. A new immersive mode will be available for videos as well. Apart from that, some of the issues from the current Oreo beta release will be addressed. Issues with loud minimum value and earpiece echo will also be fixed.

And finally, the Essential Phone will include support for Google’s Project Treble. This means that users will see faster software updates. There aren’t a lot of devices that support Treble as of now, and OnePlus has openly stated that they would not be joining the list.

If you’re looking for a great phone at a decent price, the Essential Phone PH-1 is an amazing option. Apart from an okay camera, everything else on the phone is top notch. The camera too gets improvements every now and then.
