Just over a month after the release of Deltarune Chapter 5, Toby Fox has offered fans their most substantial look yet at the game’s future. In the Summer 2026 Deltarune Newsletter, the creator confirmed the planned release window for Chapter 6, explained why the remaining chapters will take a different approach, and shared new thoughts on the community’s endless theories.
| Category | Latest Information |
|---|---|
| Current content | Chapters 1–5 available |
| Next release | Chapter 6 |
| Planned release window | 2027 |
| Release format | Standalone chapter |
| Final chapter | Chapter 7 |
| Story status | Final act of the game begins |
Chapter 6 is officially targeting a 2027 release
The biggest announcement from the newsletter is that Toby Fox believes Chapter 6 will be ready in 2027. Unlike Chapters 3 and 4, or the earlier paid bundle, Chapter 6 is planned as its own standalone update before the release of the game’s final chapter.
While the estimate is not a firm launch date, it marks the first time Fox has publicly narrowed the release window for the next chapter.

The final act of Deltarune is about to begin
According to Fox, Chapter 5 completed the final major setup needed for the story.
That means the remaining chapters will shift away from the lighter, self-contained adventures that characterized much of the earlier game.
Instead, Chapters 6 and 7 will focus directly on resolving the central mysteries surrounding Kris, the Dark Worlds, the Knight, and the overarching narrative. Fox described the remaining chapters as having “no more wacky silly adventures,” emphasizing that players will begin seeing the payoff for years of story setup.
Why Chapter 6 will be shorter

One surprise from the newsletter is that Chapter 6 is intentionally designed to be shorter and more focused than recent chapters.
Fox explained that the chapter concentrates on one specific part of the overall story instead of attempting to answer every lingering mystery. Some questions will intentionally remain unresolved until Chapter 7.
He also reassured fans concerned about pacing, saying he is confident players will understand the storytelling decisions once the entire game is complete.
Development is nearing an important milestone
Fox also provided a brief development update.
Recent work has focused on:
| Development Area | Current Progress |
|---|---|
| Story structure | New sequences written and chapter reorganized |
| Room layout | Being adjusted to fit revised structure |
| Full chapter playthrough | Approaching rough draft stage |
| Boss development | Still requires significant work |
| Cutscene polish | Ongoing |
Once the structural changes are complete, the development team expects to have a beginning-to-end rough draft of Chapter 6 that can be played internally before entering the polishing phase.
Toby Fox responds to fan theories
The newsletter also addressed one of the community’s favorite topics: speculation.

Fox revealed that he personally does not read fan theories, explaining that he already knows where the story is headed. However, he praised the community’s creativity and encouraged players to continue discussing possible outcomes.
He noted that theories, artwork, and fan stories created while Deltarune is still unfinished represent a unique moment in the game’s history that can never be recreated once the full story is known.
Beyond development updates, the newsletter also answered a few fun community questions.
What is “Jarona”?
Fox explained that “It’s My Jarona!” comes from a joke between him and his older sibling, who would invent dramatic anime-style attack names while pretending to fight. Other phrases, including the unused voice clip “Blingo Blizzard!”, originated from similar childhood jokes.
Who is Kikky?
Kikky is Toby Fox’s famously vocal pet cat. Fox revealed that the music heard in Kikky’s room is a song he sings to her every day, joking that the scene is more “Kikkyservice” than fan service.

More Chapter 5 merchandise is coming
Fangamer has released additional Chapter 5 merchandise, with more items planned, including products inspired by earlier chapters. Fox also noted that he does not expect Chapters 6 and 7 to receive as much merchandise as Chapter 5.
What this means for players
The Summer 2026 newsletter makes one thing clear: Deltarune has entered its endgame. Chapter 5 finished laying the groundwork, and Chapters 6 and 7 are now positioned to deliver answers to the game’s biggest mysteries. Although players may need to wait until 2027 for Chapter 6, Toby Fox’s latest update offers the clearest picture yet of how the final chapters are taking shape—and why he’s confident the story will come together exactly as intended.
