Was that a Marketing Stunt then, Sprint?

Sprint HTC EVO 4G

One of the best releases we saw this year was HTC EVO and when Sprint said it broke all launch day sales records we totally swallowed that, didn’t we? But looks like the biggest android phone didn’t get the numbers as big as stated earlier, as  reported by Reuters.

It is learned that Sprint have admitted that they ‘erred’ in the comparison when they said that HTC EVO on its very first day sold more than 3 times the combined of Palm Pre and Samsung Instinct. Moreover, the estimate of devices sold till first weekend of sale have been cut short to 150,000 pieces from the earlier estimate of 250,000 to 300,000 pieces.

Kind of absurd for such a big company to make a calculation error, or it’s all marketing game to compete against Apple’s iPhone, whose biggest threat is seen in HTC EVO. The latter looks more appropriate. No matter what, we still love HTC EVO more than any other phone on the planet. Okay, lets say for the time being till Droid X hits the market.

No doubt HTC EVO is a best seller, but now that numbers are reduced, you still can’t go and purchase it, since the Sprint is holding the ‘Sold Out’ board very tight. Still? Yes.

The No. 3 US company offers 4G services and see challenge from Verizon Wireless who are planning 4G from next year. Sprint’s expectation from HTC EVO remain large though and the company hopes that EVO will help it recover the lost customers or atleast stop losing more customers to rivals.

Meanwhile, Verizon is looking very good with its two upcoming Motorola devices, Droid X and Droid 2. Very particularly, Droid X, which is just 9.9 mm thin and packs in a QWERTY keyboard besides a 4.3 inch screen (with IPS technology) with the new (unconfirmed) 750 Mhz OMAP processor, Android 2.1, HDMI out, Front facing camera and 5MP rear camera, scheduled to release in July.Kind of dream phone, no?

Watch out, Sprint if you really don’t wanna lose customers.
