Turns out all those Android 4.2 rumors were not true!

Oh boy, so excited were we over rumors about Android 4.2 and its new features, but it seems all those rumors were simply not true. Android and Me, who reported the original rumors, have posted a retraction and apologized that the rumors were fake and were not confirmed with multiple sources, as was the norm. Some Google employees also posted a “LOL” message on Google+ regarding the rumors, and now we guess we know why they were laughing it up.

That’s not all. The individual who was supposedly the mastermind behind the whole scam, going by the name “Hoaxer”, has posted a comment on Android Police, stating that most of these rumors were simply things that he wished Android had, and he had gone to great lengths to get the rumors started. Android Police believes that the hoaxer is telling the truth and is capable of such a high level rumor prank, as he has contacted them in the past as well.

However, rumors of a Nexus device by LG based on the Optimus G, multiple Nexus devices, and some devices found on server logs running Android 4.2, were not part of the hoax, so we at least have hope of seeing multiple Nexus devices this year.

While disappointing, this isn’t really unexpected, but at least the rumors gave us something to think about, right?
