The Scale Coat armor is inside a Strongbox beside the Ruins: Approach campsite in the Matsukawa Zone, which you reach around Chapter 5.
Scale Coat is one of the easiest mid-game armor pieces to miss in Beast of Reincarnation because it is tucked into a fixed chest right by an early campsite. You do not need a boss clear, enemy drop, or special key for it.

Scale Coat location in Beast of Reincarnation
Progress until Chapter 5, then enter the Matsukawa Zone and make your way to the Ruins: Approach camp. This is in the mountainous region of the zone and appears shortly after you arrive there.
KEY!
At the Ruins: Approach campsite, check the area beside the campfire for a Strongbox. Open that Strongbox to get Scale Coat; it is a fixed pickup at this spot.

Scale Coat stats and drawback
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Defense | 36-37 |
| Poison Resistance | 70 |
| Spirit Stone Slots | 5 |
| Enemy Awareness | Extreme |
Scale Coat is built for players who want a sturdy mid-game armor option with strong poison coverage and plenty of Spirit Stone room. Its only real tradeoff is Enemy Awareness: Extreme, which makes stealth less forgiving because enemies notice you more quickly.
KEY!
The Defense number appears as 36 in some early listings and 37 in others, so expect it to sit in that narrow range. The important part of the armor’s identity is clearer: 70 Poison Resistance, 5 Spirit Stone Slots, and a heavy visibility penalty.

Open the Strongbox before leaving Ruins: Approach so you do not waste time farming enemies for an armor piece that comes from a fixed chest.
When Scale Coat is worth wearing

Use Scale Coat when you are heading into poison-heavy routes or want a flexible Spirit Stone setup during the middle chapters. The 5 slots give you enough room to tune around the area instead of swapping armor for every small resistance need.
Be more careful with it if your approach depends on staying unnoticed. Extreme awareness can make patrols react sooner, so the armor works better for direct fights or builds that can offset the detection penalty.
How players miss Scale Coat
The most common mistake is walking away from the first Ruins: Approach camp without checking the nearby Strongbox. Since the chest is so close to the campsite, it is easy to assume it contains minor loot and push deeper into the zone.
The other mistake is treating Scale Coat like a random armor drop or boss reward. If you want it, go back to the Matsukawa Zone camp and open that specific Strongbox.
