Now that almost a month has passed since the MWC where the Galaxy S9 and S9+ were unveiled, the honeymoon phase is fading off. Users are finally beginning to look at their Samsung flagship as a daily usage device, and there are plenty of ups and downs when it comes to the software experience. One such downside is the inability of the device to light up when it receives text messages, which makes them go almost unnoticed by the users.

Step 1: Use the stock Messages app
Although it should not be mandatory for you to use the stock Messages app from Samsung to receive notifications, this issue seems to be a bug which will most likely be fixed in the near future. Until then, you can give the Messages app from Samsung a try, which should work ideally since it is weaved into the software for better performance.
Step 2: Disable the Edge Lighting
Some of us may love the Edge Lighting feature while others may consider it gimmicky. Either way, reports suggest that disabling this notification feature allows the screen to light up every time you receive a notification.
- Head over to the Settings.
- Scroll down to find Display and then navigate to the Edge screen.
- Press the toggle switch at the top of the screen to disable.
Reboot your Galaxy S9 just as a safety measure and you should have now successfully fixed the screen not lighting up issue every time you receive a text message.
Disabling edge lighting does not work, any other ideas?
