Breathing style rankings after the Thunder nerf
| Breathing style | Tier |
|---|---|
| Snake / Serpent | S |
| Insect | A |
| Flame | B |
| Stone | B |
| Sound | B |
| Thunder | B |
| Wind | C |
| Water | C |
Wind ranks above Water within their shared tier and sits slightly below Thunder in the comparison. These are general placements, not a claim that one style wins every matchup.
Why Thunder dropped and how its moves work
Thunder previously occupied S tier. After the nerf, it was placed in C tier and finally moved up to B tier. Those are successive judgments.
The nerf affects Godspeed, Thunder’s V skill. Movement during the buff was reduced to standard walking speed.
Thunder’s combat pattern centers on closing distance and dealing damage in bursts. Dashes initiate attacks, and much of the kit links an approach into a stun.

Thunder moves and their functions
| Thunder move | Function |
|---|---|
| Thunder Clap & Flash | Can lead into an additional strike after contact. |
| Lightning Folds | Attacks from the air, adding an option beyond forward approaches. |
| Rice Spirit | Creates a field that catches an opponent before a dash-and-slash sequence, helping control their position. |
| Godspeed / God Speed | Attacks along your movement path. |
| Flaming Thunder God | Another named Thunder move; its burn interaction is covered under clan effects. |
For Flaming Thunder God, the important execution detail is its connection with the target.
Using Thunder’s openings and defensive options
Watch for an opening in an opponent’s attacks, close the distance and confirm a short attack before withdrawing ahead of their recovery. The aim is to turn that opening into a burst of damage while leaving yourself room to escape the counterattack.
Keep a defensive response available. Learning your movement and attack recovery matters alongside landing the approach. Against another player, change your entry timing after they successfully defend it.
Practice short attack confirmations against regular enemies. Experiment with when you block, dodge and reposition, paying attention to recovery.

Water, Flame, Sound, Insect and Wind changes
Water received a small buff, improving on its earlier F-tier assessment. That improvement explains its rise in the comparison without making it the new leader.
For Flame, the changes affect specific moves: Flame Undulation counters skills and M1s, Blazing Universe has increased reach, and holding Flame Tiger gives it a faster start. Its broader kit also includes substantial attack reach, gap closers and area attacks.
Sound offers follow-up extensions from almost all its moves, while its projectile deals substantial damage on its own. Those are concrete tools to weigh alongside its tier placement.
Insect and Wind also received buffs. These balance changes stand separately from the ranking: recent patches did not substantially change Flame, Stone or Sound.
Clan effects for Thunder and Snake builds
Clan benefits have their own conditions. Agatsuma’s low-health bonus requires that health state, while mark and mode benefits apply through their respective abilities. These effects add build options without establishing a new breathing-style ranking.
Agatsuma and Iguro build effects
| Clan | Relevant effects |
|---|---|
| Agatsuma | Increases Thunder damage, including through Sleepless Knight. Also provides a damage-amplifying mark, a low-health damage boost and burn for Flaming Thunder God. Sleepless Knight adds dash-speed and cooldown benefits. |
| Iguro | Has a mode that strengthens Snake / Serpent Breathing. |
