Earlier today, OnePlus started rolling out new OxygenOS updates that brought hidden space to the app drawer, May 2018 security patches, and lots of other stuff, among them bug fixes and optimizations, to the OnePlus 5 and 5T. As it is, attention has immediately turned to the aging OnePlus 3 and 3T, which are receiving updates that bring about the same changes as the OnePlus 5 and 5T.
Where OnePlus 3 is getting an update that installs OxygenOS Open Beta 36, those on the slightly newer OnePlus 3T are receiving Open Beta 27. For those in the Open Beta program, the update is rolling out over the air, but for those in the stable channel and would like to join the beta program, you’ll have to manually flash the latest ROM on your OnePlus 3 or 3T, but future updates will come in over the air.
Here are the release notes:
System
- Updated Android security patch to May
Launcher
- Added Toolbox Card in shelf
- Added Hidden Space in the app drawer
- Added Support for editing dynamic icons (Weather, Clock, and Calendar)
OnePlus Switch
- Optimized user interface for backup & restore
- Optimized logic for time remaining
- General bug fixes and stability improvements
Messages
- Added Group MMS
The two updates are rolling out to the OnePlus 3 and 3T over the air. Usually, OTA updates are staged, meaning not all units will get the go-ahead to download the update at the same time. Some will have to wait for a few days before they can download it, but you can try forcing the update through the phone’s Settings menu.
As noted earlier, you can also do a manual installation of the software, but only if you know your way around flashing software on phones.
