Let the root and mods fun begin. We just know that a good bunch of you have been keeping the tabs on development status for the OnePlus 6 TWRP recovery ever since the device hit the shelves. After all, some of you will prefer to buy an Android device only after you are sure that custom development is a full-on go for the device.
Although we never had a shred of doubt about the OnePlus 6’s custom development potential, we are glad to report that an almost fully functional TWRP recovery is now available for the OnePlus 6. And that means rooting the OnePlus 6 is darn easy now, too, as is flashing custom ROMs.

The guide above covers root access as well. But if you do not want root access, simply ignore the second last step (no. 14) which involves installing Magisk ZIP file. But if you do not install the Magisk file, you won’t be able to restart the device normally as it will run into bootloop. To prevent bootloop, be sure to download and install the dm-verity-disabler file, no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip, here. Be sure to transfer it to the device before installing TWRP, as in TWRP, you won’t be able to transfer the file as MTP is not working (you may use adb push command to transfer the file BTW).
Bugs? Well, thankfully nothing much. The only small issue with the OnePlus 6 TWRP right now, on the current version 3.2.1-0, is that it doesn’t have MTP working.
Also, as there is no mention of software version requirement in the note to this TWRP, we think you don’t need to be necessarily on the OnePlus 6 update OxygenOS 5.1.5 for this. It should work on default software and all software updates of the device.
