There’s good news for Nexus 9 users out there as T-Mobile has released the OTA update to Android 7.1.1 Nougat. After Google’s stunt with the Pixel devices, the Nexus lineup (on carriers) is starting to catch up with the latest iteration of the Nougat update now.
The Android 7.1.1 roll out will bring several of the Pixel exclusive features to the Nexus lineup. Recently the AT&T Nexus 6 got the security patch based on Android 7.0. So the update to Android 7.1.1 can be expected to be coming soon for competing carriers.
Motorola and Samsung have begun phasing out from the 7.0 Nougat and will directly upgrade their devices to 7.1 Nougat. Sony is now releasing the OTA to Nougat for the Xperia X and X Compact. The next in line for the Nougat update from Sony should be the Xperia Z5.
Putting OEMs aside, the devs at Cyanogenmod 14 have been working hard to bring a lot of smartphones, old and new to life by allowing them to run custom versions of Android 7.1.1.
