Vlas is a wounded traveling merchant you meet early in the Ruins of Mammon. His questline sends you after his missing cat, Mutton, before taking you to Lonesome Spire to break Vlas out of a bandit cage. Key The questline spans three locations and one short rest-and-return loop. The route is not combat-heavy, but you must complete the Beacon rests to advance Vlas’s dialogue. Freeing him also permanently clears the Lonesome Spire camp, so buy everything you need from the Brigand first. Use the table for the full route, then complete each stage below.
Where Vlas quest begins and how to find Vlas
You first find Vlas along the Road to Absolution in the Outskirts of Mammon. From the Outskirts of Mammon Beacon, go down the southern slope and cross the bridge toward the traversal gate. Near the gate, drop south across the next bridge to find Vlas up the hill ahead. The quickest approach is to drop directly from the bridge above him. He is slumped beside his wrecked caravan, surrounded by goods scattered during the ruffian ambush.
Speak with Vlas to learn that his feline companion, Mutton, disappeared during the attack. Exhaust his dialogue, then cross to the baggage cart and examine the small cage beside it. This interaction gives you the first Coin of Mammon and starts the next part of the quest.

Exhaust his dialogue
Talk to Vlas until he repeats himself, then search the wreck and surrounding attack site for the remaining context.
Rest at the Beacon
Sit at the nearby Beacon to advance his conversation state.

Wait for him to leave
Continue resting and returning until Vlas says he is leaving the area. After the next reset, he disappears from the camp.
How to get Unremarkable Key and free Vlas
Fast travel to the Gate of Mammon Beacon
Warp to the Gate of Mammon Beacon and climb the wooden stairs directly ahead toward the spire’s upper camp.
Reach the upper camp
Continue climbing to the top, where several NPCs and a Brigand merchant occupy the camp.
Find Vlas in the cage
Walk past the NPCs and look behind the Brigand to find Vlas inside the cage. Speak with him to start the objective for the Unremarkable Key.
Grab the Unremarkable Key

Free Vlas
Go back to the cage and give Vlas the key to free him.
Rest and return

Buy everything you want from the Brigand — especially spare Glimpse — before you give Vlas the key. The camp only stays open until he is free.

Mistakes that stall or lock the quest
The most common mistake is skipping the Beacon rest between conversations. Vlas’s dialogue only updates after you rest. Repeating the same conversation without resetting at the Beacon will not advance his story, and neither the caged phase nor the letter will appear.
The second trap is searching the whole of Lonesome Spire for the Unremarkable Key. It is inside the hut with the breakable door near the camp entrance—the same shack you pass immediately after climbing up from the camp’s approach. Check that hut first to avoid a long detour.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Vlas become a merchant after you finish his quest?
No. After the Marrow Keep meeting, Vlas thanks you but does not reopen a shop as he did in the original game. The missing vendor could be intended design or a bug, so plan for the meeting to end as a conversation rather than unlocking a permanent merchant.
What happens to the Brigand merchant after you free Vlas?
The Brigand and every other NPC in the Lonesome Spire camp disappear permanently as soon as Vlas is free. There is no second Brigand elsewhere in the game, so any stock you skip—especially extra Glimpse—is gone for that run. You cannot reverse this part of the quest, so finish shopping before handing over the key.
