QUICK ANSWER
The Heart of Vatra is a quest key—not equipment or a consumable—found at the Temple of Vatra east of the One Legged Wolf Tavern; give it to Gragu to unlock him as a playable Shell.

Gragu gives you little direction beyond the item’s name, making his request sound more open-ended than it is. The trip works as a focused detour through Fainweald from the tavern.

Heart of Vatra location and purpose

Detail Answer
Item type Quest key
Area Temple of Vatra in Fainweald
Nearest landmark One Legged Wolf Tavern and beacon
Pickup point A corruption-covered statue at the top of the temple
Use Hand it to Gragu for access to his Shell

The Heart of Vatra belongs to Gragu’s quest line, so finding it advances that objective rather than presenting an equipment or build choice.

Where to find the Heart of Vatra in Mortal Shell 2

STEP 01 · OF 05

Head east from the tavern

Cross the rope and wooden bridges, keeping east or northeast along the cliffside route.

STEP 02 · OF 05

Follow the mountain pass

Continue through the pass while watching for vampire-type enemies and petrified figures along the path.

STEP 03 · OF 05

Use the Bone Gate

Enter the Bone Gate/Traverse Gate to cross the chasm and reach the island holding the Temple of Vatra.

STEP 04 · OF 05

Climb through the temple

STEP 05 · OF 05

Take the Heart of Vatra

Interact with the corruption-covered statue at the top to collect the item from its hands.

What changes after taking the Heart of Vatra

Picking up the Heart causes the nearby petrified cultists to awaken and attack. They can quickly surround you, so be ready to fight or move as soon as the pickup animation finishes.

The gate on your original route can also become inaccessible. If that happens, check the right side of the blocked gate; a side route may loop toward the Berserker’s Stone area and provide another way out without forcing you through every awakened enemy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you use the Heart of Vatra for anything besides Gragu?

No. It has no alternate recipient, crafting purpose, or optional activation; keeping it simply leaves Gragu’s request unfinished.

Should you loot the Temple of Vatra before giving the Heart to Gragu?

Yes. Gragu’s hand-in occurs back at the tavern and does not open the temple chest, so finish the separate candle-offering objective before making the return trip.
