QUICK ANSWER
You can get the Unwieldy Stone early by buying it from Merrick in Marrow Keep for 2,000 coins, then upgrading it later at the Tarforge to unlock its stronger health-on-kill value.

Key The trip is short enough to make as soon as you have the money. More importantly, the Tarstone grows from an offensive ability into a sustain tool, making it worth leveling instead of leaving at its base tier.

Where to buy the Unwieldy Stone in Mortal Shell 2

Seller Merrick
Cost 2,000 coins
Main use Charged heavy attacks, Leech and health-on-kill sustain

Unwieldy Stone is a practical early investment for an aggressive build. Its effect rewards finishing enemies with charged heavy attacks, while its later levels help replenish health and reduce your reliance on healing items.

How to reach Merrick and buy the Unwieldy Stone

  1. Start from the Marrow Keep beacon and follow the short path into the shopkeeper area.
  2. From the beacon, move down toward the lower part of the hub.
  3. Continue along the path leading to Merrick’s position.
  4. Select Unwieldy Stone and purchase it for 2,000 coins.

What the Unwieldy Stone does in combat

When slotted into a weapon, Unwieldy Stone consumes Resolve to perform a charged heavy attack. It is universal, so you can use it across the available weapons rather than building around one specific weapon type.

At its base level, killing an enemy with the charged attack grants Leech stacks. Tempering the Tarstone to Level 2 and Level 3 improves that Leech effect and adds direct health restoration when the charged attack kills an enemy.

That recovery is particularly valuable early, when taking repeated damage can quickly drain your Mether Pulse. Using charged heavy attacks as finishers lets successful kills extend your health supply and lowers the pressure on your healing flask.

How to upgrade the Unwieldy Stone at the Tarforge

Tarstone tempering requires the Etching Needles, found in a chest near the arena leading to Magdalena in the Glutted Mire. Take the needles back to Franz at the Tarforge in Marrow Keep to make Tarstone upgrades available.

QUICK WIN

Keep Unwieldy Stone equipped while clearing enemies. It gains Tarstone XP from kills even when you do not activate its charged heavy attack.

After filling its XP bar, return to the Tarforge and use Temper Tarstones to raise its level for a Coin cost. The XP requirement resets after each temper, so keep the stone slotted while working toward the next level.

Unwieldy Stone and Unyielding Stone are different

The name also appears with the alternate spelling Unwieldly Stone; both spellings refer to Merrick’s charged-heavy Tarstone. It is not the Unyielding Stone, which is a separate Tarstone obtained by completing a trial north of the Deserted Mine.

Unwieldy Stone is strictly a vendor purchase. You do not need to search dungeon chests or wait for it to drop randomly.
