LG K8 update: US Cellular releases March security patch with build US37513a

The LG K8 holds its place as another straightforward mid range device. The device was launched in April 2016 and came with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. From the moderate specsheet, you could say that the K8 could get a performance boost with Nougat.

Compared to most other mid rangers out there, the LG K8 came with 1.5GB of RAM and a Mediatek MT6735 processor. The front of the device features a 5-inch 720p display. Storage too remained on the low side with 8GB and 16GB options. The device is powered by an ample 2125mAh battery.

Will the LG K8 receive Nougat?

Nougat would serve to make the device perform even better, but that could only happen if LG releases the update. LG sure was the first to release Nougat with its V20, but we cannot guarantee that their budget and mid range device would get the same treatment.

With the launch of their flagship LG G6, things are looking good for LG, at the moment. As for the LG K8, the device continues to receive regular security patches, with the latest update coming in as version US37513a, from US Cellular. Unlike Motorola, LG does not provide assured updates, especially to its mid range devices (Motorola before the Lenovo acquisition).

Nevertheless, since the K8 is still yet to receive at least one update cycle, there is a possibility of Nougat in the works. This presumed update could come around Q3 this year, but its a narrow ray of hope altogether. The device on the other hand received an update to the 2017 LG K8.

Alternatives to Nougat?

There are a few custom ROMs out there that could offer you a lot more freedom in customizing your device. On top of that, you should be able to see much better performance and battery gains too. If you don’t like the look and feel of these ROMs then you could just root your device and only add things that you like, individually.

The only problem with these ROMs is that, some of them tend to be buggy and may affect your daily usage. So it’s best to avoid such ROMs and try out those that are more popular, as these tend to have a large community behind them too.
