Android Pie is already here and while many LG G5 users wouldn’t mind an update to the latest and greatest from Google, there won’t be such an update for this handset. This is because Oreo will be the second and last major OS upgrade and thereafter, only regular security updates will be made available.
On the brighter side, Project Treble promises to bring along plenty of Android Pie custom ROMs and we hope that the LG G5 will be among the beneficiaries. Whether the upcoming LineageOS 16 will have room for the G5 is still unknown, but we hope it does.

LG G5 came to be in early 2016 and back then, Android Marshmallow was the order of the day. Later the same year, Android 7.0 Nougat was rolled out to the device, with some units, mostly carrier variants, having to wait until Q1 2017.
Now, despite the long wait, the LG G5 finally started getting Android Oreo update in Korea on the final day of August 2018. The update started rolling out to carrier variants in the U.S. beginning with Verizon (September 21, 2018) and T-Mobile (September 25, 2018).

Talked to an AT&T rep today, and the carrier hasn’t even gotten the update from LG to test, so January 2017 is probably an accurate date to hope for.
Talked to another AT&T rep on the 16th of December. Their tech looked at the update schedule, which states that 7.0 should be out on the H820 model sometime in December 2016.

At&t can go suck a dick with there holier than thou attitude on updates. We lowly customers dare even hope for anything less than last for choosing them.
I would’ve left AT&T a long time ago for someone else, but:
1. I’m locked in to them for another 18 months or so.
2. My whole family’s on an AT&T plan, which gets discounts from father’s work.
The ONE thing Apple kicks Google’s butt at in terms of phone OSes is updates… As long as the carriers have control of updates, it’s nothing but trouble for some people.

Will be a problem if I install the H85020A version on my G5 At&T variant ?
Yes, yes, yes! It’ll brick your phone! You’re installing firmware that was not designed for your device! All we can do is wait, fellow AT&T sufferer.
