LG recently revealed its official Android 9 Pie plans for the LG G6, confirming that the update will not be ready until Q3 2019.
That’s a long way to go and pretty much the same time we expect Android Q to begin rolling out to Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 2 devices, but until then, T-Mobile users of the G6 can make do with Android security patches, which is what this latest update is all about.
The update is available as an OTA and installs software version H87220g. After installing this update, the security patch level of your LG G6 will be updated to January 2019, the latest version available. The update is based on Oreo and besides security patches, you can also expect a bunch of bug fixes and performance optimizations.
T-Mobile says the update started rolling out last week, meaning most LG G6 units must have already received the update by now. If not, it won’t be long before the OTA download notification shows up.
LG started rolling out Android Pie in late 2018, beginning with Android One-based LG G7 One and has since made the update available for users of the LG G7 ThinQ in Korea. Next in line is the LG V35, V40, V30, and V30S somewhere in Q1/Q2, after which focus will shift to the LG G6 and V20 later in Q3 2019.
